Mr Motivator with Beder branded Metro LS

Here at VOLT, we’re proud to announce our collaboration with Beder on the #BreakTheCycle campaign ahead of World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10th. Here’s the official press release and you can also keep up-to-date with the progress of our objective on our #BreakTheCycle page.

London, 28th August 2024: Derrick Evans MBE, aka Mr Motivator, Alexina Graham, and a slew of other celebrities, today announce their participation in the #BreakTheCycle campaign. The challenge aims to raise mental health awareness by inviting people across the UK to cycle a total of 52,840km or more, in memory of the 5,284 people who sadly took their lives in England last year.

Stuart Semple, the world-famous British artist and author, kicked off the challenge, before passing the torch to LBC presenter and mental health campaigner, Natasha Devon. Mr Motivator, the beloved TV star who continues to make fitness accessible through his Mr Motivator Club, will be Breaking the Cycle this week. Online fitness gurus Jake Williamson and Alex Crockford, as well as anxiety therapist Joshua Fletcher, and the feline viral sensation Travis and Sigrid, are all also set to take part.

VOLT, the leading British e-bike brand, together with Beder, the inspiring mental health and suicide prevention charity, is launching #BreakTheCycle to raise awareness about the importance of good mental health through the power of cycling.

For #BreakTheCycle, VOLT has wrapped and donated one of its Metro LS models in Beder’s signature teal colour. The eye-catching folder will be taken up and down the country by a star-studded range of celebrities as part of the challenge, where participants will share their mental health experiences with their followers to help #BreakTheCycle.

This challenge isn’t only open to celebrities either, VOLT and Beder want the whole country to get in the saddle! Participation is simple, with riders logging their ride on the #BreakTheCycle custom Strava page, and promoting the challenge on social media with #BreaktheCycle to inspire friends, family, and followers to reach the 52,840km goal. The target was initially set at 5,284km but the community has already smashed this number, forcing VOLT and Beder to readjust! The two teams want to reach this goal by World Suicide Prevention Day on September 10th, who knows how many miles will be logged by then?

VOLT Managing Director and Co-Founder James Metcalfe commented,

Mental health struggles are one of the biggest issues facing society today, and with cycling scientifically proven to help, we’re excited to continue our work with Beder and get the important message out further with this new challenge. We want to drive positive action across the UK, raise awareness about these vital issues, get more people active, and show them you can have fun while doing it! I hope everyone in the UK can join us and help #BreakTheCycle around mental health.

Razzak Mirjan, Founder of Beder said:

I started this charity in 2017 in memory of my brother Beder who made the tragic decision to take his own life at just 18 years old. Seven years later, it is heartening to see so many famous names take the time out of their busy schedule to help raise awareness about mental health. This support is crucial in helping people receive the help and support they need. The VOLT team has matched our enthusiasm for normalising the conversation around mental health and we can’t wait to see how many miles we can rack up!
