What a great bike and company
I have had my Volt bike a couple of weeks now and what a difference it has made. I have more incentive to get out a cycle now and it will mean I use less fuel by not using a vehicle so much The customer device was second to none
Friendly and helpful staff at Volt Bikes. I was able to do a test ride. Ordering and timing were all good and reasonable. They even coordinated a pick-up at a different shop. Would highly recommend this shop!
I absolutely love my Kensington Volt bike! It feels so lovely to ride, very comfortable the basket is sooo great to have!
After speaking with a bike specialist I’ve even put a child seat on the back as the child and seat weight less than 25KG they advised me they felt it was safe and it’s made cycling with my little one so incredible. ( I would do your weighing and speak to specialist before doing this to be sure)
It makes light work out of hills, even super steep hills are very doable!
I’ve honestly never been more happy with a purchase it’s brought a lot of joy!
The only thing that will take a bit of getting used to is there’s very minimal suspension and as a girl who lives in a city with cobbles, potholes and speeds bumps you do feel them but so far I’ve found standing up to go over them helps.
I did quite a bit of research into an ebike before I bought one. I chose the VOLT Kensington because of the security features, the basket and colour. It has surpassed my expectations. I have rode in to work today (Central London) some 15 miles for the first time ever. With a bad knee and suffering the effects of an RTA (whilst driving a car) this would not have been possible on a regular bike. People have said to me it doesn't look like an ebike, which I think is a bonus. It's super simple to use and having barely ridden a bike for over 30 years this is great. If you're thinking about it, book a test ride!
Extremely easy purchase bought on the Saturday and delivered by the Friday to my preferred dealer. They made the bike and basket to an excellent standard. I am not a cyclist but this is perfect for the hilly area that I live to get out in the great outdoors, the bike is a Kensington, it’s comfortable, quiet and with plenty of assistance when needed. Overall an excellent purchase that I love!
Elliot on Tech support and the team at the Milton Keynes factory got my Kensington back moving again very quickly. They even came to house with their mobile repair van and since it wasn’t a simple issue, took bike away for repair and returned it next day. I couldn’t have asked for a better service.
Love my Kensington bike. I love getting out and about cycling but struggled on the hills so this is the perfect answer. When I’m on the flat I can turn the electric off. Easy to charge and spare keys/fobs. This bike is pure quality and looks stylish. I made a few calls to Volt who were extremely helpful and gave good advice. My bike was delivered to 93 Cycles in Ilkley who delivered this to my address with the help of Volt. Purchased on the Cycle to work scheme.
I am new to electric bikes and love my Kensington - however one very annoying feature is that to get the battery out (essential as we travel with our bikes a lot) you need to lift the seat which loses your height setting and you need to start again only a small thing but very irritating
Excellent service from start to finish. I ordered a bike for collection from their central London shop and while it did take a bit longer than I was told by pre-sales, it was still reasonable. I had reason to return and again the service was outstanding. I’ve done 85 miles in just over a week of having it and it’s been a joy. The gears are great, the engine is unobtrusive and I can manage on a low assist most of the time.
We purchase the Kensington and pulse bikes, had the opportunity to test ride them and the added bonus of very helpful and experienced staff at volt and also mycycle in Southport. The bikes are superb and just what we need
For me, a lot of research and thought goes into making investment purchases like this one. After a lot of deliberation on different ebikes, I decided to go and test a Volt Kensington. (Shoutout here to Doctor Wheelgood, a really excellent bike shop with incredibly knowledgeable and lovely staff!) I needed an electric bike to take some pressure off my knees when I'm cycling, especially as I now have a little one in tow in a Burley trailer! I previously had a Pashley Princess and I wanted to have as similar a riding experience to that as possible, but one that went a little easier on me (if you have rheumatoid arthritis in your knees, this could be a game-changer for you too!) My Volt bike has made such a difference to my day-to-day, and stopped my arthritis from flaring up. The quality of the bike is fantastic. I love that it's British-made. I love the consideration of every element of the design. It doesn't really look like an electric bike - it looks like a classic. It's a beautiful piece of design! The gear system is super easy and intuitive to use (switching from a simple 3-gear sturmey archer system I was concerned it would feel complicated alongside using the motor - I needn't have worried!) The walk-assist feature is also super useful, again especially with the baby bike trailer in tow! If you need to walk the bike up a hill, a curb or even if you have come to a stop while riding the bike and need a little boost to get started again, you can use it. The battery is easy to remove and charge. I also love all the security features included as standard, like the inbuilt Abus lock and the key fob to use the bike. This gives me peace of mind when I'm locking it up on a bike rack. The seat is very comfortable, the upright riding position is so relaxed and easy, and in general it's just a fantastic bike. The only thing I'd recommend changing is switching to a louder bike bell as the small one that comes with the bike (I've found) doesn't really get heard by other cycle path users. This is very minor and easy to switch out. So overall I couldn't recommend this bike more. If you're deliberating which e-bike to go for, I'd say this is the one! :) Thank you Volt !
Firstly, I knew I wanted a UK-produced e-bike. Volt came up on my search and when I discovered they were Milton Keynes-based I was delighted (15 miles up the road!) (not that it's particularly relevant with online purchases but it felt good!) I obsessed over a couple of models (Metro LS and Kensington) and pored over the Volt website for months (almost 2 years...) before a new local dealer arrived on my radar and I figured that was a definite sign from the Bike Gods to get my act together. I arranged a test ride which was very successful and I went straight home and ordered my new Kensington in blue. Like a Rhapsody in Blue, but on wheels. It arrived with my local dealer (the highly knowledgeable Ashley at Bike Barn Workshop) and was ready for me to collect within less than a week of ordering. I rode it home (only 4 miles but it allowed me to really get a feel for all the important features) - sadly it's been awful weather ever since but later today and certainly tomorrow do look better so I'm planning my first proper outing. I anticipate this bike to get me out more, to get me popping out for stuff too far to walk to but a shame to get the car out for, as well as just some fun cycling without killing myself up hills. Also, I've ALREADY countered a "that's cheating" comment with my well-reasoned (and true) argument - about using an e-bike being 100% better than not getting out on a bike at all. A splendid purchasing experience; no hassles, no delays and fingers crossed, no hitches. All good. Oh, and the bike is GORGEOUS!!!
I received excellent service at every point of contact I had with Volt. I don't live in London and the delivery of my bike was affected by weather and illness, but they kept in contact so I knew what was happening. If I contacted them, they responded very quickly. And the bike is brilliant - I love it!
I love my new bike. Also, I'm very pleased with the service received, the delivery to the bike shop, the man who put it together and handed the bike to me explaining all what I needed to know. Thank you
I have bought the Kensington volt bike and I love it. Not only does it look good but its a comfy smooth ride too. Also this was one of the few companies who make a small frame pretty electric bike.
Bought for my wife as a Christmas present, she loves it, first ride today. I’m surprised and disappointed that the front light is on a bracket on the near side of the forks, instead of where it legally should be on the offside or central. The rear light although probably legal is tiny and not very visible in daylight in modern traffic conditions. Other than these points I’m pleased with it
My Kensington bike is fantastic, I love it! As a smaller woman it is the perfect size and it's really easy to operate. Since having it I have done many journeys I would have otherwise used the car or bus for. It is very heavy, but that just needs getting used to.
A couple of months from collecting my new Volt Kensington and I couldn't be happier with it. Having moved from a flat city to a rather hillier one, I was struggling a little and this has made things much more manageable. My only tiny gripe is the basket is smaller than I'm used to, but I ordered a pair of CoBags which work really with the panniers and can now manage a full load of shopping up the hill!
I love the bike the buying of it was unnecessarily complicated
I love the bike. It is just right for me and my short legs. Love the look of it too.
I ordered it for a trial ride which when I ordered it over the phone I was told it was in stock and would take 2-3 days but it took 2 weeks. Good thing I was not in a hurry. The staff at TAV bikes Ryde were wonderful and very helpful. But I couldn't pay for it at the shop!! They tried to get in touch with Volt on a Saturday but not possible on a prime shopping day.Had to wait till the Monday to phone and was told I had to pay on the website. A bit odd as I was buying the bike I had ordered to try.
Nice bikes but the lock was missing from the delivery, and the bike was not properly adjusted when I left the shop ( the pedal felt off). The staff was very kind and helpful but still... I would have expected a better experience.
Picked up our Volt Kensington from our local very helpful local dealer (Doctor Wheelgood in North Walsham Norfolk). I cycled it the 6 miles to our house a route I have taken on my road bike, however the experience was so much different, although you still have to pedal, the assist irons out any inclines you meet. It was a pleasure not a chore, and my Wife was so surprised to see me so soon after I was dropped off by her, she was convinced that I got it delivered back. Great level of spec on these bikes. Expensive ? Maybe, but you get what you pay for. Quality product.
Excellent service delivered via a brilliant local social enterprise here in Shetland. Very happy. The bike is beautifully made and lovely to ride. I bought a Kensington and it is perfect for my needs.
I ordered the Volt Kensington electric bike and I am really delighted with it. I ordered the bike via a Cycle to Work Scheme. The bike arrived at my local retailer of choice within a couple of days of placing order. It could not have been easier and so many people have complimented on the bike. Would thoroughly recommend.
The bike is fantastic, excellent value for money as it comes with everything you need. Our local volt dealer was very friendly and helpful as was the people at volt when I spoke to them with regards to the order. I would highly recommend these bikes.
Review of Volt Kensington, recent purchase by 59 yr old female.
59 yr old female, retired teacher. Active, walks ~50 miles a week. Loves cycling however my ‘old’ bikes riding position was aggravating a pinched nerve in my neck. Decided to treat myself to a ‘Dutch style / step through’ bike, did some research, thought it was best to ‘future-proof’ the bike, to allow me to continue to ride as long as possible, so choose an e-bike. The seating position of the Kensington is perfect for my neck. I live in the countryside surrounded by hills. The Volt Kensington has been a dream! I do not use ‘power assist’ as much as possible, [to gain a better workout!!], however the assist is fabulous with all the hills. I now use this bike to travel to my local shops, 10 or 15 mile round journey, basket super useful. Thoroughly recommend the Kensington -no problems so far! Thank you Volt.
Thank you Volt Ecycles!! I brought a Kensington…. It is a lovely bike to ride! It has given me a new lease on cycling… being a bit older the power from the battery is fantastic for those ‘challenging’ roads around where I live!
The Volt Kensington is my first electric bike and I could not ask for more. It is very easy to ride which I have been doing around country lanes daily. I charge it up in the garage to avoid removing the battery as frequent removal is not advised but certainly straightforward. The tyres are very tough as some of the roads have sharp loose stones and so far no problem. The brakes are excellent and the gearing is easy to use. Williams cycles of Cheltenham assembled the bike and gave good advice on how to get the best use from it. Definitely order the extra security chain as it is a lovely bike.
I absolutely love my Kensington Volt (In beautiful blue). I test cycled several different types of e-cycles and fell in love with the Kensington Volt. I purchased the bike to cycle to work and it is perfect for the job. It is just right for cycling on tarmac or flat surfaces especially cycle paths and roads. The bike has allowed me to get out and cycle again. The power assistance really helps with the inclines that my knees can’t cope with. I would 100% recommend getting a Kensington Volt. It also comes in cream but I really love the blue. The guys at Volt were incredibly helpful and The Cycle Company, Shawford were totally awesome where I test rode the bike and then picked it up.
I received my new Volt Kensington last week and decided to ride over to our daughters house 12 miles away. Was I worried, you bet I was terrified! If it hadn't been for Wayne from "On Yer Bike" encouraging me to believe in myself, I don't think I would have managed it. I absolutely love the "Kensington" e-bike and considering I haven't ridden a normal bike for at least 10 years, it was an absolute breeze after I learned what was under my control. Volt, have really thought of everything. From walking up hill with the assist button, to climbing a hill with very little effort from the pedal assist even on low, there was no need to try medium or high and at the end of the day I still want to keep fit. From the look of the Kensington down to the accessories it comes with, the back wheel lock, built in front and rear lights, the battery can be charged on or off the bike, the security tag that you scan on the system in order to start riding the bike and etc. I could go on and on. I am definitely in love with the Kensington and once you own one, no other bike will do. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and the Kensington is a beauty!
This bike is the best bike I have ever owned. Not only does it look class it rides like class. Those days of struggling up "that" hill are a thing of the past. Well done Volt ⚡?
My wife wanted a stylish e-bike and was looking at a Pendleton. I saw the Volt Kensington in Leith Cycles and immediately felt this was a much better choice, even although more expensive. Fortunately my wife agreed, we came and test rode the demonstrator. Fantastic! Loads of branded components mean long life and easy repair/servicing in the future. Bike shop was brilliant from start, and have remained so. Only slight thing is that headlight is on left hand fork leg, I’d prefer it on the outside (right hand) fork but overall fabulous
Very quick delivery from Volt and Kensington bike set up nicely at Bay Bikes, Morecambe. It's lovely to be cycling again after a gap of 20 years, along Morecambe Prom, looking out over the picturesque Bay and also after joint replacement. Life is good.
I love my new Volt Kensington bike and am enjoying riding it. However, I wish it wasn't set to turn itself off after 10 minutes of not using any assistance. I have a couple of long flat tracks I use which, with my old e-bike, I didn't use the assistance. With the Volt, even if flicking the walk assist occasionally (to the point where I feel a surge), the battery still turns itself off after 10 minutes. Even if I turn it on occasionally using the computer, if I don't do it for long enough each time the battery goes off after 10 minutes necessitating me stopping, taking glove off to get it going again. Also, I didn't realise when I bought it that I would need to take the saddle out each time I wanted to charge the battery - I live in a first floor flat so it's not convenient to charge it on the bike. On the whole though, I'm very pleased with the bike and love having the front basket!
My little Kensington is brilliant. It zips up hills, and is not too heavy to manoeuvre about without the motor. The breaks are good considering how fast a heavy wee bike hurdles down the hills. The one thing that I have noticed is the seat kept slipping down when I was ridding it and I was worried that the pressure I had to put on the quick-release to hold the seat in place was going to snap the mechanism. The ride is also a wee bit bumpier than my last bike. That said, I love this electric bike and I wish I had bought one years ago. :)
As soon as I saw the Volt Kensington I knew it was the bike that would get me back on two wheels after years of not cycling.
It is amazing!!
I mostly use it in low power for just a bit of assistance when peddling, occasionally in normal power to keep up with traffic with very little effort and if I'm going up a hill I can up the assistance to high power and can keep cycling without the embarrassment of having to get off and push! It's like having someone push you along!
On top of that there is still the 'Power' setting, which I haven't needed to use at all yet but I feel sure that this setting will get me up any hill.
The bike is beautiful and the build quality cannot be faulted. There are some nice safety and security features including a built in wheel lock and I really like the reflective rims on the tyres.
Really happy with my Kensington e-bike. Cycling is a joy and I'm quickly getting used to the pedal assist and gear changing. I live in a hilly area and the bike gets up these okay. Having a 17" frame size meant the bike is the right size for me as I'm 5'2".
Bought 2 Kensington blue bikes. Love them very much to cycle around London -- got lots of compliments from other drivers and cyclists :)
Got a problem with one of the batteries next day we brought the bikes home -- the battery pins were bended inside and there was no way to put it back and lock. But we phoned Volt Bikes and they fixed the problem the same day. But overall no issues with them so far, so we continue to enjoy the power of electricity!
I absolutely love my volt Kensington. I can now cycle again and it makes me feel free. Brilliant service from volt and on yer bike where I had it delivered x
The bike (Kensington) is great the only criticism is that it’s a real faff having to take the saddle off each time when removing / replacing the battery if parking in a less secure area. I ordered a volt bike lock and a cover at the same time but the cover did not arrive with the bike. I had to chase it up. Eventually, it arrived a week later. Oh, also, the chain lock does not click into place easily contrary to that shown on the video Otherwise, such fun!
Extremely pleased with my VOLT Kensington ebike which was delivered to my local bike shop and assembled by them recently. The bike is a 'step-through'with 24"wheels which suits my 5' 3" size. I had the tyres changed to black instead of the white tyres that came with the bike. Black suits the country lanes which I ride on. I am very pleased with the bike itself with top quality components and it's performance. Prior to ordering I contacted Volt a few times making enquiries regarding the 'kensington' and they were prompt and helpful in every way. My only concern was from ordering I had to wait around 7.weeks for the bike to arrive, which the Volt team made me aware of. I can now say that it was well worth the wait. Also comes with a 2 year guarantee registered on line. Thanks once again,a happy customer.
Everything was absolutely fine the only thing was we were told 2 weeks for delivery and it took a month but it was no big deal. Very happy with the bike
It’s amazing, so simple to use, feels very secure and well built. My only niggle, the front mudguard rattles a bit when I go over bumps, can’t see a reason why! But it’s still an amazing bike
After much research, my top choice of e-bike was the Volt Kensington. I found a dealer locally to me, which was important for being able to have a test ride and to get the bike regularly serviced in the future. I was advised that I would have a 17 week wait for my e-bike. I was happy to wait, however, the bike turned up 12 weeks early!! Wow! This was fantastic customer service from the Volt company. The customer service from the dealership was absolutely brilliant. The bicycle is amazing. It is an absolute pleasure to ride. The functions are so easy to use and the power it provides is perfectly balanced to provide the necessary assistance. As someone that suffers with Chronic Fatigue/ME but is hell-bent on reducing my carbon footprint, this has revolutionised my life and enabled me to leave my car behind. Not only that, but having solar panels on my home and a top up supply from renewable energy sources, it is carbon neutral to run. All round this gets so many A stars!
Great ebike and it arrived early which was a bonus. I mainly use it to commute to/from work and it certainly does the job. Very comfy seat and good suspension. Volt were very helpful during purchase.
Ordered my Kensington in may, recieved it in mid July, has a fault on the battery where it won’t lock with the keys.. spoken to vault several times & they arranged for the battery to be collected for inspection. They agreed about the fault & said they would change the barrel & keys. Over two weeks later and still waiting???? I parted with almost £1800 on trust of this company 3 months ago, don’t know why they couldn’t have just sent a replacement ASAP and I could of returned the original battery in the replacement box. Feeling disappointed. Let down . 26/8/21 New battery has arrived and it’s the wrong colour! Now having to wait yet again….good news new correct battery has arrived & is perfect. Will be out & about this weekend on my beautiful bike, will add to review when I have had a ride. 24.9.21 Superb bike, rides beautifully, I have arthritis in my knee & no problem! Stunning eye candy, definitely gets noticed! I give the bike ***** 5 stars Shame-about the customer service, needs improving, then again we all learn by mistakes.
Straight forward and no fuss to order with a short wait until my bike arrived. I am pleased with the bike, it is as described although it is a little too high for me with the seat set at its lowest setting.
I received my long-awaited (due to Covid) Kensington a few weeks ago. I must admit to some trepidation as I've not been on a bike for 10+ years but the more I use the bike the more the fears have proved unfounded. The bike is beautifully built and appointed. It's so easy to ride and makes mince meat of daunting hills providing that extra help when you need it, although most of the time I cycle around on Low or Normal. It should be noted that the bike is heavy (as are all e-bikes). This is noticeable when you handle it manually, ie. parking or putting it in a car (a good work out, but not to be recommended) but once you're on the move you don't feel the weight at all. The boost button when pushing off is genius - it gives you just enough speed and time to sort out your pedals and stops you wobbling around until you start picking up speed. The customer service from Volt throughout has been first rate. And when it was ready Lyle himself rang through to say I could collect it. A special shout out goes to A1 in Braintree, who put it together for me. They were completely brilliant. Michael was a star and spent lots of time with me while I rode the bike in their car park until I felt confident I'd be fine on my own. The final thing is that I bought the 15 inch frame. Although I'm 5'4" I have short legs and after chatting with the Volt team they advised me to go fo the smaller bike. I'm so glad I did as the standard 17 inch frame (which they also had at A1 Braintree when I collected my bike) was too big. So if you're vertically challenged or have short legs the 15 inch is the one to go for. All in all it's been a brilliant experience dealing with Volt and I look forward to many happy outings with my bike. PS. Thanks for the free hi-viz vest, a nice touch!
Very pleased with the help and advice when we were ordering. Love my Kensington but I do find it heavy. Riley’s inSherborne have also been thorough and helpful. Just waiting for my husband’s bike to arrive and then we can go off together!
Ordered test ride, which i did through local shop, had a ride and loved it. So much better for my knees not putting so much strain on them. Bought the Kensington (smaller version as im a shorty) loved the blue colour and the accessories. Enjoy riding. thank you. Great service.
Excellent Kensington bike - just what I was looking for
I bought the Kensington 15" bike from Volt and it is amazing. The Volt team are very helpful and quick to respond. The bike was delivered on time and was in a very well protected box. Would recommend this company.
Delivered quickly - rode away from the bike shop with a big smile on my face ! Haven’t looked back - great ride , thoughtful extras like the walk assist , extension for the wheel lock . It is fun to ride from around the block or into town !
I bought this bike for my wife and she loves it. It’s easy to ride, easy to use and has bags of power when going up hill. It is also a very attractive bike too. Only down side is the brakes are a little squeaky but this may be due to the brakes bedding in, only time will tell.
I cannot speak more highly of Volt Bikes. The service from beginning to end has been faultless. Customer service is excellent and are an example of how customers should be treated. Well done for being a seamless service.
Great service from Volt (a hunan calls you re delivery!). Absolutely love the bike which is top quality and made here in the UK. Great from start to finish. X
I have the Volt Kensington and love it! I wanted a step through bike that also looked girly, and this certainly does that. I get so many comments when out and about. I pre-ordered so as to have it in time for the better weather and Volt kept me informed all along the way of the schedule. I’m very happy and so pleased that I can now go out and enjoy riding my bike with very little effort. Highly recommend it, which I have been doing a lot.
Absolutely love my Kensington. It was worth the 8 week wait to get it. Makes going up hills a breeze. Well done volt it's a fabulously well built and high spec bike. I jump on the bike now rather than getting in the car for local trips as live out in country so getting to post office or doctors or shop is around a 3 mile round trip. Great for using the bike.
We recently purchased a Kensington for my wife in powder blue. A lovely bike to look at, and a pulse for me. Both bikes are fantastic, although my wife thinks they are far to fast. Keep telling her to slow down.!!!
I have researched e bikes extensively before ordering my Volt e bike. Given the climate we are currently living in, my cycle was in the queue of orders for about 5 months. I am please to say that the day finally came for me to pick up my cycle and I have been so excited to ride it and get used to it. I used to get breathless when cycling up hill but not any more. I am so please with my purchase that seeing the ease in which I can now tackle hills, my husband would also like to change his cycle for an e-bike. He now struggles to keep up with me. We are both retired and I am sure that we will spend many hours Happily cycling the Norfolk trails. The thing that impressed me to buy Volt is their attention to detail. The bike comes with many extras and the quality of workmanship is excellent. Volt also make one of the only small framed cycles for vertically challenged customers. Being only 5ft the 15inch fame is perfect for me. A totally satisfied customer who would recommend Volt e bikes to anyone.
I love cycling and had bikes for many years. I have then had a Volt Kensington e-bike for Xmas and didn't think I could enjoy riding more but what an amazing bit of kit this bike is!! I spend my life oaths bike and my only wish is that I had a battery charger so I can charge it whilst I'm out and ride it forever without coming home to recharge it! That said the battery life is absolutely superb and gives endless hours of cycling.
So thrilled with my new bike! I live in Devon and all those hills were putting me off cycling and my smart new Kensington has really given me back my vavavoom!! I still feel like I am getting exercise but when faced with a big hill, with the press of a switch I feel like someone is giving me a gentle push which really takes the grunt out of it! The controls are easy to work and the back wheel lock and security swipe key makes me feel a bit safer about leaving it while I pop into a shop or whatever. My only small niggle is the saddle, which while it looks very handsome, isn't the most comfortable so I have sacrificed style for comfort and swapped it for my favourite super-comfy gel saddle!
My husband bought me the Kensington bike for my 60th birthday, not used it much as the weather has not been to good but hoping to use when the warmer weather arrives. So far I am really pleased, well made, very sturdy and just a lovely bike.
All round smooth easy system, integrating tech & cycling. Stylish looking, affordable, good security features & arrived with accessories. Ease of switching modes, bike is heavy but super quick acceleration. Has put “the fun” back into cycling.
I bought my Volt bike from The Bike shop in Derby, they were very knowledgeable and helpful in assisting with my purchase for a ladies electric bike for my Mum. I was soon happy that the Kensington was the night choice for us. I was given an estimated delivery time to wait for the bike and this turned out to be very accurate. On collection at the shop I was shown how to operate the computer which as well as showing the usual time and distance measurements, controls the level of electric assistance to the drive. I rode the bike myself, so I could better explain everything to Mum when presenting it to her as a Christmas gift. I was instantly impressed by the assistance and how easy to ride like a conventional bike it was. At 76, she know breezes along side me along the country lanes where we live and has no trouble keeping up with me on my standard road bike. We just leave Dad behind (he's 84) . Think it's time for another Volt from the bike shop.
I got my Kensington Volt bike just before Christmas having not ridden for over 10 years. One of the best purchases I have made. The variable levels of assist allow for a speedy outing to the shops or a more relaxed pleasure ride. It is so comfortable to ride and looks so stylish, I love it.
Delighted with my Volt Kensington, excellent service from Volt, impressed they transported my bike over 300 miles to an excellent little cycle shop for collection. Thank you
I bought a Volt Kensington and the bike is fantastic. I'd definitely be happy to recommend. However, a couple of things to be aware of. You may be have to wait to receive your bike, I ordered the bike in August and did not take delivery until February. When the shop received the bike the rear mudguard was broken and required a repair. I'm waiting for a replacement from Volt but they have promised to get this to me as soon as possible. The bike shop I ordered through have been fantastic and the product is excellent.
It’s almost too powerful. Great all round top quality cycle !! We have ordered a Kensington for my wife. !! Hope the first service date of 6 weeks after purchase is flexible as the weather here h as seriously curtailed my cycling
The smaller version of the Kensington is perfectly proportioned for smaller people. I'm 5ft2 and couldn't not find an electric bike for my size. It's a pleasure to ride, I can now commute to central London easily and more quickly than before, it just erases the hills! I just have mine in the low mode (except for big hills) so I still get a workout. Excellent brakes, it feels safe in every way. The only room for improvement in my mind is that the key hole for the lock is at a strange angle, not too easy to get the key in.
I purchased a Kensington Volt Electric Bike in September from Haslemere Motorcycles. The service I received there when I collected my bike was amazing and I have posted a separate review to reflect this. I haven't had much of a chance to use my bike as I bought it at the on set of autumn and I have to say I am a fair weather rider. however, the short trips I have been able to do I have loved. The bike is easy to ride and whizzes effortlessly uphill. It is solid, well made and beautifully finished. I’m so proud to own this bike and being only 5ft tall it took me a huge amount of research and time to find the right model/make and I definitely have! In addition Volt rang me a short time after my purchase to make sure I was happy with it, a rarity these days..great company!
My wife purchased a Volt Kensington in Blue she loves it, the look and finish is top class. Originally volt had a challenge getting the bike in the smaller size but I have to say Lyle when I called him to discuss the delivery was on the ball with his communication calling me back within a few days to say they had the right frame size on the next available delivery. My wife has done over 100 miles in 3 weeks and smiles every time she she rides it. She has had many ladies comment on how great the bike looks, she always wears the free highbright vest they shipped with the bike a nice safety touch Team Volt.
I have now requested a test ride on a Volt alpine to help me keep up with her it looks like my cannondale Carbon road bike might not get much use in 2021.
Thanks Lyle and team your communication is top class, your bikes are fantastic.
I would recommend this bike highly for good looks, build and performance... however, I would also say - receive your delivery from a bicycle outlet, rather than direct to your home address - as I chose. Both of the disc breaks were rubbing to the point of impairing the ride of the bike. Eventually, problem was sorted at a local branch of Halfords - after I had begged a lift from a kind neighbour the following day. I guess if you are a bike aficionado, and confident with disc breaks and their foibles - this would not be such a problem! I love my Kensington Volt for its speedy response when hitting the motor button, and good looks. The bike is definitely an eye turner! Roll on some dry weather again
have so enjoyed my bike during lockdown had my electric bike stolen and as my husband is awaiting knee replacement he cannot walk far but cycling fine.our local shop had a volt bike in stock and we snapped it up and have done many trips thank you
I had very good service and am enjoying riding my lovely new bike I am just waiting for the chain lock Volt promised to send me via the agent, then I will be able to go further and be able to leave my bike securely locked
I have the volt electric, blue bike. It’s wonderful, cannot fault the look, design and smoothness. Absolute joy to ride. As I have always enjoyed cycling but knees have prevented cycling for a few years. Now I can enjoy it again on the best bike that looks so pretty. A joy to ride. Wanted to put it in a showcase but temptation to ride was overwhelming. It’s smooth, quiet and reliable.
The only small issue is with the chain lock it is difficult to make sure it is around homeport of the frame then the bike stand and then into the integrated lock
bougjht a volt kensington , from Ross cycles Castlewellan N Ireland it has opened new horizons for me ,exercise ,fresh air, a great addition to our travels in our motorhome , would highly recommend Volt Cycles for their build quality and level of equipment
I have recently bought a Kensington ladies electric bike and I really love it. I do find it a little heavy but once riding it it is really enjoyable. I haven't ridden a bike in over 30 years but once I got my sea legs it was easy. The hills are no problem and I can decide how much effort I need to use.
Every thing about my Volt bike makes me smile. Love the step through as it enables me to get on the bike with no assistance. Love the colour, which is bright and cheery. Love the independence I gain, being able to go further than I thought possible, ever again. Thanks for a terrific product.
I absolutely love my new bike. It has once more given me the freedom to enjoy the countryside and the coast. If I want a workout I can switch the battery off but I can be confident in the knowledge that if I approach a steep incline I need only press a button and I can ascend the hill with ease.
Thank you so much, I had forgotten how much I love being outdoors.
I absolutely love my Volt ebike. It's now a joy to go out for a cycle ride knowing that the struggle with hills and head winds is a thing of the past. Can't recommend it enough.
I hired one of these in Cornwall last year and finally bought one to keep fit during lockdown - best thing I could have done! It’s a joy to ride and I’ve been able to leave the car in the garage most days! I bought it direct from Volt and delivery and after sales service have been excellent
Good looking bike, especially liked the same colour front basket. Great mover, acceleration from stop brilliant once I managed using power button on left & gear change on R side of handlebars in best speeds. Comfortable ride unless on uneven surface as front tyre so hard my hands & arms felt all the bumps ! Seat comfy although needed it to be angled so I didn’t keep sliding forward, but appreciated suspension in seat on bumpy surfaces. Feels secure on road, tyres grip well. All in all very pleased with my super speedy bike.
I'd like to thank Volt for picking up the phone during lockdown and talking me through their bike range to suit my needs. I appreciated them chatting me through my requirements as a "non - biker", reasonably fit lady in her 50s. Upshot I went to my local Volt stockist and bought the Volt Kensington. It may be the older model than the swift. And I appreciate its rear hub drive. But golly I cant believe it! The hills flatten out, ride position is comfortable and enjoyment 100% Thank you - I may not be wanting to race down hard mountain and cross country tracks, but for me this bike is amazing. Build quality and design is amazing. Without doubt I will use it every day for errands and fitness. I'm really pleased. Thank you Volt
I am so pleased with my bike. What a great investment! I'm getting places I could never cycle to without the assistance and it's making me cycle far more than I ever would with a normal bike. So lucky to have got my bike on the day before lockdown - I've ridden miles and miles.
So pleased with my Volt Kensington bike. It is a very comfortable ride and is easy to pedal without the assist. I do like that everything is within reach while on the move. There are nothing I dislike and Instructions are easy to follow with no hitech to confuse. Have enjoyed exploring short distances and look forward to the time when we are allowed to go further afield.
Brilliant invention- has given me back independent transport
Excellent machine! I have lumbar spine problems and arthritic knees - the "sit up straight" style of the Kensington is perfect for my back position and the power assist has been brilliant for my knees. Loads of movement with only minimal resistance. I live surrounded by hills, the steepest of which I can tackle on max power - I love cycling past Lycra clad fit people who are straining to get up hills. The power assist is very smooth and very easy to use. The disc brakes are great and feel very safe when going downhill. Slightly arthritic hands are very well supported by the shaped hand grips. Loads of battery time - I'm big and heavy and can get 30km using up only half the battery power. A year ago I moved away from London to rural Scotland; I miss the availability of transport. The electric bike has given me back independent transport. I am delighted with it.
Both my wife and l are very pleased with our Volt electric bicycles. We find them very sturdy, easy to handle and for us the price was about right. The only concern is with one battery, on my wife's Kensington, which seems to be having only two led lights on, whereas my pulse remains on three or four led lights, where the same distance is being covered. We are monitoring this and may swop over as a test.
My volt Kensington electric bike is gorgeous very good performance and easy to use. My only problem with the bike is it's weight which I think cannot be helped as this is due to it's type. It is very heavy and a couple of times I have lost control of the bike which is made far worse as I cannot easily handle it, and in fact I have fallen which could have had a far worse outcome if I had been on a busy road, I just grazed myself and broke my helmet. Having said that this 69 year old is going to pick myself up and get back on the bike once my graze is better and I have purchased a new helmet. I wouldn't be able to cycle at all without my Kensington.
Bikes are brilliant- we bought 2 one in stock, one ordered and came quickly although they didnt have the colour we wanted due to Xmas demand. As we bought 2 they agreed to throw in the chain locks which was a nice gesture as the bikes arent cheap. So far the bikes have been Amazing.
Bought the Volt Kensington as I was looking for a stylish easy to ride bike and it certainly fits the bill. Bought the green one and I absolutely love it. Everything about it is just so easy. Love the way you can get a little boost when needed but the power is always there. I only use mine for recreation around the country lanes but its perfect. Thank you Volt for a great bike
Riding my electric bike uphill for the first time was one of the best experiences of my life! Restricted movement meant I was unable to go for walks nor confidently ride a bicycle, but now I can cycle with no concerns about my ability to make the return journey. I am 5' 3" and the 15 inch frame is the perfect size. I haven't quite managed a perfect hill start yet owing to an inability to apply enough pressure with an arthritic foot. I can honestly sat this is the best purchase I have ever made !
I am very happy with my Kensington bike. I am in my 60s and have cycled all my life. This bike is perfect for me now. It is very comfortable and practical. I love the seating position and the step through style. I like the lock and have purchased the extra ambus chain lock which attaches to it - this gives me confidence to leave unattended and meets insurance requirements. The extra help the battery gives means I can go further without getting exhausted. I have tried without power when I can and found it absolutely fine just using the gears. Another good point is the lights which are powered by the battery. All I need to do now is to persuade my husband to purchase one to suit him and we could go out and about together. All in all I am extremely pleased with my purchase
The best bike I have ever owned. Sturdy, very well built and beautiful to ride. I was a little bit worried about buying an E bike but it was most certainly the Best Buy ever. Getting on a bit now and found it impossible to ride a normal bike even with multiple gears. The Kensington is perfect for getting up those steep hills and the boost button really helps for those steep pull aways. No more to say but 'LOVE IT' Jeannie
I’m so happy with my volt bike , it’s simple to use . Love the colour and the basket on the front just right for me. This is my third electric bike and the best one.
I'm re-volting as my brilliant Kensington was stolen so I couldn't wait to get another. Once again great service from Lyle and the rest of the Volters.
I brought my Volt bike at the start of August so I've been riding it about for 2 months. For the most part, I absolutely love my bike. I brought it on finance so it's affordable for me (cheaper than my monthly travel card) and I get super angry and resentful if I ever have to go on public transport!
Good bits: The design! It's soooo pretty! (I got the Kensington) The performance. I'm quite lazy so I use the pedal assist more than most fit people I guess but I cannot tell you how much of a dream it is to ride, even up the steepest hill. The features. It comes with everything you could need and more!
More constructive info: I didn't want to say bad bits as these bits are "bad" bad. The saddle. I ride 12 miles a day and when I first was getting used to the bike, my butt has never been so uncomfortable! The seat is quite hard and I just didn't like it. My butt has adjusted to it now but it took a lot of getting used to. The suspension: London roads are s***. They just are and that's not the bikes fault but I feel for the money, suspension could be a little better? I feel every single bump and movement of the road, there's some main roads I have to stand up as it's so bumpy and makes my bones rattle. CS: I would have loved a little care from the customer service side of things. Considering the money these bad boys cost, I felt like I was a pain or burden, someone to just get out the way. There were times of genuine care (Andrew at the London shop built the bike and he's been super helpful with little checks in my first months. He even managed to get rid of a horrible scratch id got on my paintwork and no question is too dumb). It would have been amazing if maybe there was a follow up call or email service just to check how you're getting on with the bikes or just a little more help or knowledge with what checks can be done etc. The battery life. It says the battery can go 60 miles. I have to charge mine every 20. It's probably because I use the electric help, I never ride with it turned off but it's advertised to go 60 miles which I think is a little misleading.
That's all! I hope this is helpful to someone considering getting one. I honestly do LOVE my bike and I hope this winter isn't too bad so I can ride it every day!!
My bike was rattling, horrible noise. Discovered it was the brake cables banging on the basket. Solved the problem by tying up the cables with plastic ties. Would like a much softer seat. Other than those problems I love the bike.
I hired a volt bike in Scotland and…New to e bikes
I hired a volt bike in Scotland and zoomed up hills that I found difficult on my own push bike.I have now bought my own as it gives me exercise for my knees which have arthritis , which results in throbbing pain if I walk, but no pain if I cycle and I enjoy being out in the open air. I did find the rear tyre soon went soft and thought it must be a puncture.Pumping it up did not last long.My husband changed the tyre, with difficulty, and it is now OK but the old tyre seems OK off the bike! One expects it to be OK when bought and I had only cycled 70 miles when it needed changing.
Being only 5ft tall, it's difficult to find a comfortable adult bike that isn't too big! The Volt Kensington comes in XS-sized frame, which suits me fine. It's easy and fun to ride, with no more wobbling when starting off uphill from traffic lights! The different power modes are really helpful and easy to operate, it makes cycling for pleasure in hilly countryside an actual pleasure! I feel more confident and certainly more enthusiastic about cycling now.
I bought a Volt Kensington in July 2018 after it appeared in "top ten" in newspapers and was convinced by Volt's reputation and reviews at the time that the bicycles are built well, seldom go wrong and the aftersales care is good. Having had the e-bike for a year, I can now write an honest review of my experience with it. Pros: A very pretty, fully equipped bicycle. You will get many people looking and smiling at your bicycle. It was, initially at least, a pleasure to ride (see below for experience over the year). Great for going up hills (as long as your battery is charged!). I would have given the bicycle 4-5 stars if I had written the review within a week of owning it. However: Cons: I've had quite a few issues with the bicycle in the past year and it's had to visit the bike mechanic many times. -My main issue with the bicycle is that the motor kicks off very suddenly with any movement of the pedals. Volt e-bikes have motors that get triggered by pedal movement rather than being able to detect the amount of pressure on the pedals, so acceleration is very sudden. Initially, I was okay with this as it seemed controllable, but after 11 months, I found that the motor would kick off very suddenly while I was walking it, even just a 1-2 meter walk to the bike rack. This happened 3 times in a day and caused the bicycle to crash and me to fall over. It was a very frightening experience to have a motor that goes off on its own. Volt's response via the dealer was that it is a common problem as sometimes the pedals may inadvertently move slightly while you are walking the bicycle and this triggers the motor. The solution Volt suggested via the dealer was to always turn the speed level down to 0 when walking the bicycle. Unfortunately, this was not in the manual, nor known to the dealer, so I could have caused quite serious damage if the bicycle had zoomed off into someone. I would not have bought the bicycle if I had known this was an issue, as I may one day forget to turn it down to 0 (it really is a pain to have to do that, especially since it's very easy to accidentally go into the wrong speed level with those buttons) and end up with the bicycle in the canal or hitting someone. To be honest, I am now quite frightened every time I ride this bicycle. This was the most serious issue, but there were some other more minor ones listed below. -Within 6 weeks the back wheel started making loud repetitive clicking noises that took 3 visits to the dealer to fix. Also had issues with motor cutting on and off, which was a minor issue as the dealer easily fixed this. -Within 5 months, the back wheel spoke broke while I was cycling. I ride predominantly on paved roads and paved cycle paths, and am below average weight, so you don't expect a spoke on a well-built 5-month-old bike to just break. So, another trip to the dealer to be fixed. -Gear unit faulty and had to be replaced after 11 months. I took it to the dealer after 11 months for a full service but ended up with brakes that was either permanently rubbing or not working. Annoyed that I had paid £80 for a full service and they did not bother to test whether it was actually working, I decided to take it to a more local and trusted bicycle repair shop who pronounced what I had suspected, that the gear unit was faulty and had to be replaced. -The bicycle is not great for going through cobbles or any slight bumps on the surface, so you would have to avoid routes with cobbles or bumps. - Bicycle came with a terrible manual that wasn't even specific to the model. - The customer service is not great: for example, I paid Volt directly over the phone as you can't pay through the dealer, and the call handler happily took my card details but not my contact details before hanging up, so I was never sent a receipt. I emailed and called several times, some emails were answered ("we will call you"... but no, they didn't) and some not, but basically it took weeks, several persistent calls and emails before I even managed to get a receipt, over 3 months after purchase. So, as you can imagine, my verdict after owning it for a year is that Volt does not really live up to its reputation of having very well built bikes as I have had multiple issues with it even within its first year and it had to spend a lot of time and quite a few £ being repaired. I am not sure if I have been unlucky in getting "Friday afternoon bicycle", but personally I would never buy a Volt e-bike again. The level of service will be dependent on your dealer and proximity to the London HQ, the dealer can only really fix the mechanical parts and anything electric has to be referred to Volt. I really wanted to like this bicycle, but sadly have been very disappointed with the problems I have had with it.
Given us a new lease of life! Enjoying the fresh air and exercise. Easy to use would not recommend these bikes (I bought 2) highly enough! Just hope the services are not too costly.
I left it until last minute to order my bike and was worried it wouldn't arrive in time for my holiday. Toby went above and beyond to get it delivered to my local dealer in time. I took my beautiful Kensington bike to France and it performed like a dream. Can't rate volt high enough wonderful bike and excellent service. Thanks so much
I love my Kensington Volt bike. It makes a huge difference to my enthusiasm to bike and the power assist you get is amazing. Great service from the Volt team.
Extremely happy with our new bikes. The team at London Bridge are excellent. Very helpful and knowledgeable. Suggested which bikes would suit us best but happily let us try out as many bikes as we had wanted. The after sales assistance seems excellent too. Would have no hesitation in recommending people looking to buy an electric bike visit Volt at London Bridge.
I bought my Volt Kensington a month ago and I'm so happy with it! I been commuting just over 8 miles to work everyday which wouldn't been possible without this bike. Rain or shine it's really fun and easy to ride and the bike is really pretty which is a big plus. I must also add that the staff at Highland bikes in Hertford where I was test riding the bike at were brilliant!
This bike is just so easy to ride and I wish I would have bought it sooner!
It was a pleasure to speak with Volt Bikes UK, every time I called they were extremely helpful and flexible ultimately ensuring that I was 100% satisfied with my purchase. The local cycle shop then took over and ensured a really good end to end experience. No reservations to recommend them - and the bikes by the way are fab
Really enjoying the bike! Can travel distances not achieved for many years, and with greater ease - Hills are not a problem. My initial battery did not take me as far as expected, mostly due, I believe, to my weight and lack of fitness, both of which should improve as I am now out on the bike most days, as wind direction and strength do not matter nearly as much. The after sales service is very good! Up graded to the larger battery, part exchange, so I am now looking forward to even longer rides.
It took me a while to convince myself that an electric bike wasn't 'cheating '. After some research I decided to buy a Volt Kensington and I can honestly say I have not regretted it. Apart from being a lovely looking bike it is very well made and came with lots of extras such as a built in back wheel lock, lights and a basket. After sales service from Volt is superb and I would have no hesitation in recommending them.
I am really delighted with my Kensington pale blue e-bike. Have named it sky.It zips along really well yet you still feel in control. I bought it locally and the boys at the bikepost in troon have been really helpful. Nothing is too much bother when you ask anything.
I feel a lot fitter as I have given up my car. I either cycle, walk or use my bus pass. Would definitely recommend volt bikes to anyone who is interested in getting a new bike. They are so well made. The finish is excellent.
After researching electric bikes I decided on a Volt Kensington. The bike itself is very pretty. I found I had a local dealer "On yer bike". I cannot speak more highly of this company and Chris B Chris went to enormous lengths to explain the bike. He even got the smaller frame model in so that I could test ride both and make an informed decision. I chose the larger framed Kensington I am still in the early stages of getting to know this bike but so far so good. The only negative is that the bicycle is a little heavy but apart from that it is just about perfect. I am looking forward to many happy hours of cycling.
My Kensington bike is proving a delight. I'm still getting used to its capabilities and have joined a cycling group where I can keep up without the struggle when climbing hills. I feel confident to travel longer distances now that I have electricity on board!
We purchased a Pulse X and a Kensington. Both are great bikes, well engineered. However, it was disappointing that Pulse bike arrived with the rubber M button missing, the two spare fuses for the battery we’re missing and the cable grommet on the frame keeps coming out. Volt provided the missing parts very quickly and I am hoping the cable grommet will be sorted on first service. All little things, but it took the edge of the delivery. For the price paid it should have been perfect in every way. Never the less, both bikes are excellent and great to ride.
Great bikes - have purchased a Kensington for use at home (following knee replacement ops!) & a Metro for taking in the campervan. Had to wait a few weeks for the bike locks but worth the wait - great service too from the guys at Volt and A1 Bikes in Braintree.
Excellent product at a fair price. We bought the Kensington. A few updates on the model we tried and all for the better. The handbook needs to be updated to match the bike. Customer service could be a bit more professional. Seems their back office is not joined up!
Finally managed to buy my Volt Kensington a few days ago. I had decided on this model as my friend has had one for a couple of years and loves it. I picked the blue colour and am delighted with it. Haven't been far on it, but the plan is to take it abroad in our motorhome and cycle around the villages and towns in Spain with our schnauzer in a dog trailer. The bike is easy to handle with clear instructions on how to maintain the battery. The bike feels solid and comfortable to ride with good space for carry bags at rear and a lovely basket at the front.
Bought from Jardine Bikes in Coventry. A superb bike - The Kensington, 26". Did my research and found an article in the Independent on the ten best electric bikes - the Bolt Kensington was one of these. Terry at Jardine was extremely helpful and knowledgeable and his customer service was second to none.
I have osteoarthritis in one hip and cycling using an ordinary bike was becoming more painful - the hills also seemed to be getting steeper which probably had something to do with old age ! I did quite a bit of research on electric bikes and as soon as I saw a picture of the blue Volt Kensington I knew that was the one I wanted. When I went to my nearest stockist to see one I was amazed at the thoughtful extras that were included such as a lock, lights, rear carrier and front basket. The gears are easy to use and charging the battery is straightforward. I am really pleased I bought this bike; I love it.
I can't believe how brilliant this bike is. I did a fair amount of research online, and have used electric bikes when in France, but this has surpassed everything. I am recovering from 15 months of surgeries, which culminated in an actual transplant of parts into my knee in Nov. Once we felt I had the stationary bike nailed, they would let me out on my bike, but as it is hilly in the North Downs, I needed assistance occassionally. It has been beyond my expectations. For the first time in 15 months it made me feel like I had some independence and the bonus is I rode it so much, 10 days after getting it I was able to start walking - something no one thought I'd get to until June. I can't say enough as a bike rider before my surgery as well, the bike is fully suited and booted, and packs a lot in, and is worth every single pound spent. And get the light blue Kensington, everyone loves it and it is always a talking point!
Great bike a little heavy when trying to get it up on to a pathway would be easier if I Was not to weak in the arms..great bike highly recommend looks good smart looking
I absolutely love my new volt Kensington, I had dealings with volt and Fred baker cycles, Bristol and was very pleased with the customer service I received, cannot praise them enough!
This is our second Volt bike. The first was a Pulse, which is over 2.5 years old, and it has been great! So we bought a Kensington bike for ladies. This is new and feels very well made. It cycles really well, quietly, looks very good, and it has been easy to adjust. I look forward to cycling many miles with it, with my husband on his Volt Pulse.
An amazing bike ! I'm an older cyclist & this has opened up a whole new world of cycling for me. The build quality is very good, finishings are great. The motor and gears are very easy to use and give the best assistance whilst still feeling like I've taken some exercise. I would highly recommend the Kensington bike.
Good solid cycle. Haven’t received the two items that were included for a December purchase ie security chain and cover if I had ,5 stars would have been awarded.
This is my first electric bike, and is intended to leisure trips, mostly infine weather! I've been out couple of times and have enjoyed it so far. It wad not cheap, but the build standard seems very solid so far. I shall have to change the saddle as the one supplied is too narrow - I'm not a racer!
Went to the London HQ to test ride the bikes. Very helpful and patient staff. Ordered two bikes - Kensington and Burlington. Did not get a discount but did receive some good accessories FOC. Bikes delivered directly to home fully assembled. Only used the bikes twice due to weather but very happy with the bikes so far. Build quality looks and feels very good and electric bike control and gears are easy to use. Can't wait for the better weather!
Brilliant bike. Power assistance is quiet and smooth. The bike is heavy (As are all electric bikes) - no problem when riding it at all, but quite a struggle to lift onto racks etc. even without the battery. Having not cycled for some years, we are really enjoying our outings. Looking forward to spring & summer when we hope to get a lot further afield.
Volt Pulse and Kensington Hubby has the Pulse, I have the Kensington. The Kensington is the first bike I've had for a few years because I had had a few unpleasant experiences and lost confidence. The Kensington has restored my confidence in cycling. It's so comfortable and stable and it's the first bike I've ever had that I can use the gears effectively with. The gear selector and the power assist selector are perfectly placed and responsive. The power assist is amazing - no need to worry about hills but I still feel like I am properly cycling and getting exercise. Hubby is a confident cyclist and wasn't sure he'd like having the assist but he absolutely loves it. The bikes are really stylish too and we've both had admiring glances when passing pedestrians. Lyle and the team are brilliant, giving excellent customer service and support.
Great bike. Makes cycling effortless but you can still choose as much or as little workout as you desire. Hills are no longer a problem; it feels as if you are cycling in Holland. Only wished I'd invested earlier.
Having not ridden a bike for over 30 years, I was careful to ensure which bike I bought would be the best. I think I found the best. It's very well made, good to look at, comfortable ... and, most importantly, I feel safe riding it. Albeit I keep to proper bike trails until I'm more proficient.
A couple of little niggles ... firstly, I somehow lost the back light, I'm not sure if it was knocked off or just fell off... but it's gone. So, I have to find a replacement and I haven't found one I like yet. The second thing was the moveable handlebars... Sadly, they hadn't been properly tightened (even when fixed in place) and they moved when I applied much pressure, which for a short time made me very nervous and feel unsafe. Thankfully, my husband had the right tools to be able to tighten it properly.
So make sure these have been fixed on properly before setting off. First bike ride from Dolgellau to Barmouth and along the sea front and then back again along the delightful Mawddach Trail well and truly under my belt.
I have just bought the Volt Kensington and I'm very happy with it. I am using it for a 9 mile each way commute four days a week. I tested other bikes, but liked this one because it still feels like a bicycle, whereas others felt more bulky and closer in style and size to a moped. It has four levels of assistance, and I tend to use 3 and 4 for straight clear cycle paths or roads where I can get up to 18/19 miles per hour and of course I also use that for a couple of steep hills on my route where I can still maintain about 10 miles per hour. There is no way I would be able to commute on a bike without the assistance, last time I tried on my push bike, it took almost an hour to do 5 miles! I love the styling and the sitting position, nice and upright which, to my mind, is much better for your back and shoulders. It looks very pretty, which is nice. The instructions state that you should charge the battery after every journey and not let it run down, this apparently preserves the battery life. If I have one criticism, it is that the assistance button allows you to go from maximum assistance (4) to no assistance (0), if you accidentally press the button to increase the assistance once too many times, on my first commute, this happened when I was attempting a steep hill so I came to a grinding halt and had to walk up! After the first ride, I never did this again so it's not a problem, but I just can't see the benefit of it being designed like this. So, all in all, I love this bike, very happy that I bought it with no regrets at all.
Our experience in dealing with Volt was excellent when they sourced a specific bike for my wife which was in short supply.
Our experience in dealing with Volt was very good. The blue Kensington ladies bike was in short supply but they took the trouble to source one for my wife while I purchased the Burlington. We have enjoyed riding the bikes and my wife loves the basket on the front of her bike. My only wish is that the gears were hub rather than exposed, a change that Volt may like to consider in the future. Overall we have had an excellent experience when dealing with Volt through the Cycle Store in Brighton and I would highly recommend them.
Loving going out on my volt bike. Bought the Kensington model. Didn't take me long to work out the best use of the assistance levels. I had been struggling with my manual bike with the very gusty weather we are experiencing this year - now it's a Breeze! I don't hesitate to get my bike out and go as far as I want. Now I feel confident I can continue cycling during my retirement years. It's given me more confidence at busy junctions that I can set off and pick up speed to cope with traffic. Bought my bike from local dealer Hewitts Leyland Lancashire who encouraged me to go out on a test ride for as long as I wanted. Worth the 6 week wait for bike to arrive and they set up the bike and changed seat stem to improve pedal reach (due to my short stature). My husband is an engineer and is impressed with the build quality. Great service from dealer and Volt. If cycling for you isn't as enjoyable as previously go for a test ride.
Amazing quality of product and service. I love my bike, the only thing I would change is it's weight (which is still lighter than most electric bikes) and the fact that every bump and uneven surface is felt ( however the bike is a city bike, so I suppose that is to be expected).
I have angina and really wanted an electric bike to give me more flexibility. I live in a very hilly part of western France. This was a present but I had had a test ride. I really love it. I can go up hills with the second lowest setting with no trouble and when I get tired can put it on automatic and get home with little effort and lots of speed. Easy to use. And it is such a pretty bike.
I love my Volt bike. Not only going up hills - where I get a buzz from passing lycra-clad young lads - but in the prevailing winds we get round here. I also get a kick from the speeds I can get up to, although usually I cruise around at about 10mph, being a bit of an oldie. Nancy K (72yr old)
One of the pedals had a faulty bearing, no-one picked it up on pre inspection before delivery. Was changed quickly and we are now happy with our bikes. A little disappointed that it was only after we had bought our bikes that we were told that they are not water resistant, not much use for a bike in Scotland, but sure we'll sort something out.
Purchased 2 different style bikes via Highland Bikes - Inverness, after having good test rides. Arrived quickly and brought to our home. We are now travelling round Europe in our motorhome with the bikes on the back. We are now cycling nearly everyday and thoroughly enjoying the experience. Absolutely brilliant. We are in our mid/late 60's and my wife cannot walk very far, but the bikes have given us the opportunity to explore both towns and countryside (far easier to do this in the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany etc. If only the UK was as bicycle friendly) Given us a new lease of life - brilliant.
I purchased a Volt Pulse E bike and my wife purchased the Kensington E Bike we are thoroughly pleased with these bikes and would recommend anyone to buy these bikes
The bike is beautiful and exceeds my expectations- I'm a 45 year old mum with arthritis in my knee and now I can ride up steep hills like Mary Poppins! The battery life seems fine, I did 20 miles up and down hilly S Wales in cold weather and it still had plenty of life in it. Now I can go out with my husband and enjoy the ride instead of jump off the bike every 5 minutes to push it uphill whilst he waits for me at the top. I absolutely love it- it's opened doors for me. I would thoroughly recommend it. No regrets despite the price. The team were super friendly (though I was offered a complimentary D lock which never came -because the price jumped up £100 between my test ride and my actual purchase but they weren't able to honour the original price - minor point I guess in the big scheme). They also gave £50 off because it was ex-demo/nearly new and not brand new. Chris in Swansea was also great- very happy with their service. Best thing I have bought in a long time!
My Volt Kensington e bike has put the pleasure back into cycling for me, as I am now a senior citizen and finding some hills a struggle, but now I am first up any hill and enjoying every moment of it, I wave to my husband as I pass him by.
My partner and I bought two Giant electric bikes 3 and 4 years ago. We thought they were fantastic but, when we changed from a motor home to a caravan, they were too heavy to lift into caravan. Initially, I sold mine and bought a Batribike. Had several problems straight away and shop gave me my money back. Then I bought my Volt Kensington. Absolutely love it!! When my partner rode it back from somewhere and I took the car, he wanted one. After selling his Giant, he bought the Pulse and much prefers it to his Giant. Would highly recommend these bikes. Just come back from doing 25 miles, my partner towing our doggy hut behind his.
Absolutely delight with the purchase of my new volt Kensington bike. Very easy to use, but best of all hills are almost non existent. I love going out with the rest of my family cycling in the beautiful countryside with the lovely wind on my face. My family are also delighted with my purchase as they alway ready to have a ride on the Kensington. I debated over several months if the Kensington would be the bike for me but I can honestly say l have no regrets
Love the colour and style of the bike, however very heavy, this could become a problem with bike racks.. Also I'm 5'3 ..it's a little too high on the lowest seat setting .. Tried to amend guarantee information, asked for confirmation, but no response, disappointed about lack of commutation
The bike was bought because I have a bad chest and find it difficult to cycle at times. The new bike means I can ride faster and further. I have not had any problems with the bike. I have riden the bike with and without using the electric both ways are fine. This bike was a good purchase as it give me more freedom to get out and about doing something I love cycling.
I purchased my volt bike direct with volt HO, but could test drive one out at a local bike shop, which was fantastic. Purchased for health reasons, having this bike means I can go out with my husband but have no worries about getting home if I over do it! I've had many days of fun with it, and looking forward to many more!
Thanks Volt, you've given me back a part of my life that I was desperately missing.
Both my partner and I have VOLT bikes. FAB. Go anywhere, up hills and down dales. Excellent for nipping to the shops, etc. especially when we are both silver haired cyclists
I have rarely enthused so much about anything in my life. I have a Kensington step-through and can't recommend it highly enough. I used to cycle to work daily but with a steep hill and wind tunnel between home and office gradually gave in to the internal combustion engine. Now I choose to cycle, even if a lift is on offer, and have been known to complain that my commute is too short. I would suggest a couple of minor design tweaks: the on/off button on the battery is sometimes a little tricky to switch on and the battery fits so tightly it is sometimes difficult to pull out of its 'socket'. These are minor details though.
I have had my Kensington about eight months now, and it's been worth every penny. I live in a very windy spot with mostly undulating if not downright hilly terrain (and no dedicated bike paths). Before the Kensington, rides were rarely more than a couple of miles and were too much effort to be pleasurable. Now I generally go for 25 mile runs, often on minimal assist, and it's just sheer pleasure. It's sturdy and stylish - well balanced and while heavier than a standard bike, it's light enough to be easy to lift into the shed for storage. Plenty of assistance options from none (just using the display as a speedometer) to minimal assist for low gear slower inclines through to something that will get you up a hill with ease. Even removing the battery to charge (and for security) after each trip, it's the job of a minute to slide it back and replace the saddle. Quite a few people have commented on it when I've been parked up, and it's been easy to give it unreserved praise.
We have only been out on the bikes once in a month since buying them, they seemed brilliant, we have been so busy at home with, (not expected), building works, the bikes have had to take second place! We are sure our next review will be higher!
We bought electric because our surrounding Dorset countryside is very hilly. They have meant we both can enjoy biking again, together, and we easily cover distances that were unheard of with our ordinary bikes. The Volt have been ideal; if I have a criticism, the Pulse saddle is not for long distance and the weight of them precludes me lifting them up onto the motorhome carrier. To remove the battery means removing the saddle, but, overall, we are delighted
Has renewed my cycling life aged 70, at present using it in France and Holland lashed to the back of our motor home. However, I would like a software update which would allow a zero power option with a live screen. This would allow me to view speed when pedalling normally. Luv Helen
It's such fun to ride a bike knowing that if your energy flags, there's help at hand....the boy-racers still call out 'Cheat', but who are we cheating? Pedestrians, drivers, airline passengers?
My only reservations would be the kph rather than mph, and derailler gears rather than Chimano, which I was used to.....
Otherwise, it's a great bike - and I'm so glad to have chosen the Kensington rather than the Burlington, if only for the lovely colour!
