Outstanding customer service and a top quality product!
My experiences dealing with Volt have been fantastic from the outset. The initial call with one of the team was really helpful steering me to choose exactly the right bike for my requirements. When ordering I requested delivery by a specific date as I wished to take the bike on holiday with me. Unfortunately, there was a potential problem with battery availability but the Volt team were really pro-active and rang me to tell me they would arrange a 'loan' batter to ensure the bike would arrive on time - which it did! Having used the bike for a couple of weeks, I am delighted with the build and ride quality. Everything about this company exceeds expectations!
Volt has really thought about the needs of city riders
I recently purchased the Metro through the Cycle to Work scheme, and I couldn’t be more satisfied with the experience and the product itself.
From the start, the process was smooth and straightforward. Volt’s support team was very helpful in coordinating everything through the scheme. The Metro itself is solidly built, stylish, and surprisingly powerful for a compact folding model.
On the road, it performs exceptionally well. The pedal assist is smooth and intuitive, making hills and longer commutes much more manageable. The folding mechanism is easy to use and feels sturdy, making it ideal for storing at home or at the office. It strikes the perfect balance between portability and performance.
Battery life has also exceeded my expectations. A full charge lasts well through my weekly commutes, and the charge time is reasonable. It feels like Volt has really thought about the needs of city riders.
Overall, I’m genuinely impressed with the bike's quality and the convenience of purchasing it through the Cycle to Work scheme. The Volt team are brilliant - cheers, Kevin!
The Metro has completely transformed my commute, and I’d highly recommend it to anyone looking for a reliable and fun way to get around London.
Bought Volt metro in late 2024 and metro LS in march 2025
Bought a volt metro in late 2024 from my local dealer after looking at quite a few other makes. Very impressed as soon as i saw it. All branded components. Beautiful paintwork. British designed and British made and built and great price. Wanted it mainly for UK holidays hence choosing a folder. I have a high end emtb but i'm finding that i'm now riding the volt recreationally more than my emtb as it's such a comfortable and easy bike to ride. It tackles gravel tracks with ease. I've ridden upto 50 miles on the transpennine trail on the low power setting with still 1 bar left on the battery and i'm 13 stone. I've now had to purchase a volt LS for my wife as i let her ride mine and she said it was a much better and smoother ride than her own bike. Volt are easy to contact and the customer service is brilliant. I had a small delay on delivery of the LS and when i chased it up they were on it immediately and even sent me a bag of accessories free with the bike by way of an apology. Buy british i say!
I ordered a Metro folding Ebike & it arrived to my local cycle shop on the Isle of wight with the wrong pedals , one phone call later and the issue was resolved within ten minutes , very impressed & a special thanks to Elliot from Volt , excellent customer service & agreat bike ! I did a lot of research before settling on Volt & I have no regrets .
Ordering online was straightforward. It was clear that the order would be sent to a cycle shop if my choice. I submitted the details. Clear directions about happen happens next.
My purchase of a VOLT Metro went very smoothly with both VOLT and the Northern Ireland VOLT distributor making the purchase a pleasant and trouble free experience. Furthermore I am very satisfied with the performance of the bike - it feels like it is gliding along when I cycle. A very smooth experience. This is the 3rd e bike that I have purchased from VOLT.
I decided to buy a Volt Metro after researching and speaking with them. Really helpful staff and once I got my bike they were really helpful in sorting hub magnets to make a more secure folded bike.
Volt were tremendous in arranging my test ride at A1 Braintree, who were also very helpful. Ordering from Volt on line was simple and very clear. Delivery to A1 was within 4 days and was checked by them so I was able to collect the bike only 1 week after my test ride. Very pleased with the quality and look forward to learning to ride it to its full potential.
It’s everything you could possibly want from an electric fold up bike. I like the fact you have the choice to remover the battery if you like to charge it, the saddle is quite comfortable from day one rather than having to wait for it to soften over time, the walk mode is very nice as it gives you a little boost when pushing off from a stand still position eg at lights. The customer service I received when I collected my bike was brilliant they told me everything I needed to know & even showed me how to fold bike up & the added security of the rear Abus wheel lock is brilliant too
Looked at numerous folding bikes , someone reccomended Volt. Arranged a test ride through the website. Bought the bike on the spot. Wife liked it so much bought her one as well. Communication between myself and Volt has been outstanding not only by email but they have phoned me as well. Best customer service I have ever experienced. They even sent me a box of goodies they didn't have to do as I was outside the offer.
I recently purchased a Volt Metro (the coolest bike ever in white with retro white wall tyres !). Not only cool but technically superb...a joy to own and ride. The addition of Panniers and rack, helmet and security chain made it perfect (fully functional, safe and secure). Thanks to Kevin, Elliott and James for Volt's outstanding customer service ethos. Not forgetting Richard and Sean at Mandarin Cyles Norwich - for fantastic and ongoing service. SUPERB all round guys - many thanks. Andy Rowe
I’ve had my Volt Metro e-bike for a couple of years, and it’s honestly the best thing I’ve ever bought. I used to hate cycling, but not anymore! Now I know that looks aren’t everything, but I must say that my bike (Jesse) gets compliments wherever he goes. He’s very stylish. I went for the whitey-grey colour, and I absolutely love it.
Before buying an E-bike, I did a lot of research and test-rode quite a few different ones before I settled on the Volt Metro. I live in a pretty small, terraced house, so I didn’t want a full-sized bike, but at the same time, I didn’t want something flimsy as I regularly ride through woods, along canal paths etc. I’ve found the wheels to be really good, and they easily tackle all terrains. I was a little nervous that with them being smaller than standard size, at 20 inches, I’d feel unsteady going up kerbs, hitting stones etc., but they’re solid wheels, and this hasn’t been a problem at all.
The frame itself is incredibly durable, sturdy and robust. They’re manufactured in the UK, and you can tell it’s been made properly – It’s not some cheap c**p from China. I had an accident on the bike (not the bike’s fault!) and the bike mechanic who checked it over was really impressed with how well the frame had held up. I believe his exact words were “Boy, this is welded well”... On that note, it’s worth mentioning that it's not the lightest bike around (although that’s the case with electric bikes in general due to the electrical components), so I wouldn’t recommend it if you're planning to fold and carry it frequently (unless you’re Arnold Schwarzenegger).
I live at the top of a ridiculously steep hill in Sheffield, so I was initially sceptical that it would get me up there (I’m not the fittest!), but I can confirm that it handles the city's hills admirably! The inclusion of disk brakes, especially at its price point, is a standout feature that makes riding down the hills so much safer. I test-rode a different e-bike that had V-brakes. I remember it was a wet day, and they had absolutely no stopping power going downhill.
As well as a quality bike, the after-sales care and customer service are exceptional. Mathilde and Elliot have been great, and I can’t thank them enough. When I encountered a minor issue after purchasing the bike, I got in touch, and within no time, the issue was resolved with a level of friendliness and efficiency that genuinely impressed me. Their dedication to customer satisfaction reaffirmed my belief in the brand. Even little things, like including the VOLT bag and hi-vis jacket with purchase, make VOLT and the people who work there really stand out.
All in all, I would highly recommend purchasing an e-bike from VOLT. The Volt Metro is a dependable electric bike that balances performance and affordability. If you're seeking a bike that gets the job done without breaking the bank and appreciate solid UK-based customer service to boot, then go for it; you won’t regret it!
The test ride arrangements worked really well, allowing me to buy with confidence.
The bike is very comfortable and has great suspension. The motor has good power and the folding mechanisms work well. The extra security features (fob and back wheel) are a great idea.
I bought the Volt Metro about 2 months ago, and have put around 550 miles on it. The bike itself is excellent, just very heavy. I'm (relatively) young and fit, and didn't expect the weight to be an issue, but it's very heavy. If you're not really having to fold and carry it often, it's a fantastic bike. The different power levels let you push yourself if you want to, or just cruise if you're tired.
I live in London and have been dealing directly with the team in the office in London Bridge. My experience with them has been amazing. Always super responsive, really friendly. I had an issue with the battery that came with the bike but they gave me a loaner whilst they ordered a new one which I picked up a few days later.
They took the time to show me various option I could have, did two test cycles arranged easily - loads of great advice. The ordering was swift and efficient. And I can't tell you how much I'm loving my new Metro - its so nippy and comfortable, I'm inventing reasons to go and use it!
Just purchased my Volt metro from Birdie Bikes in Hampton after months of research. Although the Metro was probably more then I intended to spend at £1,799, it stood out from the competition with its specification and made in UK, I had concerns that my arthritic hip would be an issue as I found my 26” wheel bike painful to ride, no such problem, sitting position was so much better and power assist made cycling a breeze. I’ve only done a few miles but what a quality bike and quality service I’ve received. Thank you Birdie /Volt
Quality build of my Metro is superb, its a bit on the heavy side but you can see the quality, had to remind them that they promised a free lock but they kept their word and supplied it via DPD, still did not get the bungie straps but hey ho did not detract from the quality of the bike. Now looking forward to the better weather to get the most out of my bike. Nice people to deal with.
Nice company to deal with, friendly and trustworthy. The bike (metro) is brilliant, it's like riding a full size bike but yet fits in my small house. It rides beautifully, I've no experience with E bikes at all but the motor seemed punchy and definitely a breeze to ride, I've not smiled like this since a child, very fun. The bikes all have quality components, I'm one to buy upgrades and go the whole hog and kit myself out but with this bike there's absolutely no need. I did buy more lights for extra safety though and I'd definitely recommend the ABUS wheel lock chain extender. Awesome bikes and great to support an English company rather than shipping from China.
Disappointment followed by elation…My experience with Volt.
My wife ordered my Volt Metro e- bike as a present for my Birthday/Christmas present. A late delivery on my e-bike dampened my ego initially, but being in receipt of it soon put my disappointment on a back burner. I am 71 and have a failing heart valve which will require replacing soon. My consequent physical exertion is quite limited but having so excellent an electric assist bike has liberated my life with respect to being able to enjoy the great outdoors. I find the bike excellent to control and comfortable too. The joy of riding it exceeds expectation after sourcing it through a criteria for a bike with agreeable and excellent technical specifications. I was not disappointed. Yours Sincerely a very satisfied customer.
Great bike, everything the manufacturers claim it is.
Very friendly and informative about their products when I visited their London Bridge store and offered a test ride on the bike I was interested in. I ordered the Metro folding bike as I have limited storage space and collected it a week or so later. I am 6'3" and the fit is just fine. On collection the guys at the shop ran me through the folding, charging and general usage procedures and off I rode. The bike is definitely a little heavier and more expensive than a lot its comparable models, but the build quality is incredibly high and all the components are by well known and well respected manufacturers, with everything being built/assembled in Milton Keynes. The ride is very comfortable and the pedal assistance is very smooth indeed, being new to electric bikes I found this to be everything their website claimed, very impressed. The Shimano gears are smooth and efficient and have none of the perceived "quirkiness" of another high end competitor, they just work. The claimed battery life is spot on resulting in a range of fifty plus miles, NOT kilometres! The charging time of three to four hours, again matches the website. If I had the space, I would certainly buy one of Volts' larger touring models as well. I bought the bike back in August '22, it's now almost November, absolutely no issues, I have no second thoughts on recommending these British built bikes to anyone.
I have had my Volt Metro for just under 3 months, and have become an enthusiastic cycle commuter, clocking up 845 miles on my arrival home tonight. It took me a few weeks to learn how to use the battery and the gears most effectively, but now I'm sailing along, and am extremely happy with my purchase. The bike is impressively well designed: the folding is so easy to do, the carrying bar just right, the pannier rack really good - hard to find any fault at all.
1. I find the low, normal, high, power switching awkward to use - would be better like a throttle grip? 2. lifting the folded bike into a car boot could do with being thought out better - its really quite awkward. You end up trying to lift a hinge flap. 3. I find the power delivery a bit notchy. 4. Range is excellent 5. Power is adequate
We have been clients of Stonehenge Cycles in Salisbury for about 50 years, and therefore asked them to do the PDI for our new Volt Metro. As expected, they did a splendid job, including replacing a punctured inner tube and rim tape! This morning, I did a maiden 10 mile trip along lanes in rural Wiltshire. As this was my first experience of an E-bike, I was cautious, but was impressed with the ease with which it boosted me up hills, and retained its composure when speeding down the other side. We acquired the Metro to reduce our car-use for short shopping trips around local villages, and being a folder, it can easily pack in to the car to do the same when we are at our holiday home in East Sussex.
Already had a Volt Pulse. Wanted a fold up bike so I could put in the boot and take on holiday. Had a test ride at a local dealer on the Metro. What a great little bike. Folds away nicely to put in my boot. On the the road it is easy to ride and is not phased by even the steepest hills around where I live. Comfortable and easily adjustable to fit my frame.
Still only a few days into my Volt Metro experience, but loving it. Would have gone electric long ago if I'd realised just how effortless it makes things. Great people to deal with, and helpful, (my first bike was damaged in transit and a new one was shipped out the next day with no quibbling). The other good thing is that they work with local bike shops so you've got someone on hand to answer questions and do the follow-up services. And it's UK designed.
After a little misunderstanding, for which I was compensated, I received my Metro folder and 2 extra large batteries within 3 weeks not bad in these post covid days. I had an electric bike 25 + years ago powered by lead acid batteries, WOW what I difference I weigh just over 90 Kg, so almost full load for the poor thing yet even on low setting it whisked me along and up moderate hills with ease, I didn't really pedal, just turned the pedals slowly to keep the power coming, and used the walk lever as a boost up steeper hills, fantastic. If only someone could invent an armchair sized saddle, after 25 years I had forgotten what Saddle Sore felt like. I feel the government has made a mistake in not allowing e-bike to just have a throttle, scooters have them, so why not e-bikes? Much more control. I tried the POWER setting and was taken by surprise at how quick it gets up to speed, even loaded with 90 Kg, All I have to do now is find someone to give it the 6 week once over, unfortunately the shop I picked it up from in Bletchley is closing.
Great bike. Got my Volt metro e-bike delivered to The Bicycle Chain, Johnstone brilliant service and very thorough handover from them. Couldn’t be better. Joan Livingstone
Really pleased with the bikes and delivery, just a bit disappointed i am having to chase the £50 voucher promised as compensation for not being able to supply us with the bigger battery,
Volt Bikes, judged by their agent BikePost in Troon, efficient, very professional and friendly service and attention to detail. The Bike Post has easy access and a safe location for test rides. Mark is an absolutely brilliant guy....... two Volt Metros ordered and a nice email from Volt themselves. Definitelt the right decision.
Had metro for a week brilliant love it .a little bit heavy for me in my seventys leave at bottom of my flat .so not a problem buying experience excellent. Got to grips with folding just use a bungee to keep it together easy
Being over 70 with some ailments that go with that age, I purchased a Volt Metro to help me continue with my cycling. Fantastic bicycle plenty of assistance especially up hills and folds into the boot of my car Wonderful.
I wish I could give this bike 5 stars and hopefully if the issues I have are resolved I would, but Sadly at the moment I can’t. The volt metro folder handles great, comfortable to ride, good design and has plenty of power. I seldom use anything other than “Low” and on some steeper hill “Normal”. Motor noise is normal compared to other rear motor E bikes. Bad news is that when you try to fold it, there is a chance the two half’s can scratch together, so I use a cushion in between the two half’s to protect it. When riding, if you switch the power Off, after 10 minutes the battery and LCD switches off and stops registering mileage and trip distance, when you want your power back you now have to dismount to turn the battery back on. Been told by Volt nothin can be done at this time other than remembering to switch it back on within the 10 minutes. I’m hoping my issues can be resolve as I was hoping to purchase another Volt for the wife, but that’s now on hold.
I visited a couple of times before purchasing and took a test ride. The staff member was knowledgeable and informative, answering my questions and being extremely patient when I asked several times for a demonstration of the folding process, battery removal etc. As a result I purchased the bike, which I collected from the store within a few days from placing my order and I am highly delighted with it. It is comfortable and speedy and fits nicely into the boot of my car. It is extremely good value and well built and I would thoroughly recommend it to anyone considering purchasing a folding e-bike
Purchased my volt metro from Pau Hewitt cycles, leyland
Purchased my volt metro from Paul Hewitt cycles, Leyland. It arrived, as promised, within 3 days. I have ridden the bike for 40 miles during first couple of weeks and find it to be quick to accelerate to max. speed with good power and selection of power levels. The 8 gears are well spaced and cater for most situations. The controls are easy to use and the bike is a good looking thing. For anyone looking for an electric folder I would definetely recommend the metro. Thanks to Paul Hewitt cycles for good service etc .
I've had my Volt for a while and have done around 700 miles on it. I bought the Metro which folds so that I can take it into my office. It has revolutionised my commute around London. When I want the exercise I have it on "low" and when I can't be bothered I crank up the power. It's makes Greenwich hill a piece of cake. I had issues with the chain jumping off when I first bought it but they changed the whole front gear mechanism without a question and fine since. Recently it stated to make an odd noise, like a quiet creaking. I was worried it might be serious but they stripped it all down and replaced all of the bearings etc. It has stopped the noise. What's great though is it was a little issue but treated with respect and care and fixed under warranty. It's an English company with a great product and they back it up. You really couldn't ask for more. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend.
dear volt team. done 25 miles since brought. would have done more but owing to cold. best i could do. at present i give full marks well satisfied. little different than riding a normal bike. i am 77 years old. and at my age most new things take a little longer to get used to. thanks for your query. i am very well pleased. cannot wait for warmer days. with kind regards brian.
If you are considering purchasing a Volt bike - "do it !" - you won't be sorry. We now have a Metro and a Metro Ls and we can't wait for our holiday in June in the Cotswolds where we will be bringing them with us ;o)
Purchased two bikes. Have started riding them and what a great experience. Controls are easy and the power is fantastic. Would recommend these no problem.
Great bike! well built and very good quality.. I was surprised how easy it was to use and ride without using the electric power. I wanted a bike that gave me exercise and help up the big hills and I am very pleased with the various power selections.
Excellent quality, sturdy city bike (metro) with that extra kick away from the lights. Reasonable range, worth the wait. Perhaps a tiny bit heavy, but overall very pleased
Excellent bike, still getting used to it but I'm very confident with the bike and it's equipment. It's all there, bell, lights and carrier. Would not hesitate to recommend it to my friends. Now having a look at your other bikes!!
We bought Metro folding bikes from Volt. After 4 months patiently waiting through the summer, they are fab. They are quite heavy and rather large when folded, but are comfortable and exciting to ride. Gears are easy to use and going up hills is now a breeze, especially with the boost button. Highly recommended.
Waited 6to8 weeks for bikes to arrive at performance cycles bikes had damaged mudgard then waited another 6weeks for replacement gard to find wrong one sent hopefully this will be rectified at 6wk service
Excellent bike easy to ride. Looks good and easy to fold and unfold. only fault is the weight not good for manipulating on and off public transport or up and down stairs.
Ordered 2 Volt Metro at Williams Cycles of Cheltenham in April 2021 and delivery was estimated for end of July. This would have been ideal as we planned to use them during a Holiday booked for mid August in Somerset. Sadly, the bikes were delayed and we eventually collected them in the 3rd week of August. Fortunately, we were able to make good use of them during early September during another few days we had planned in Somerset at this time. The bikes performed superbly well and really helped with the hills around Clatworthy reservoir, Exmoor. The only issue so far after 90 miles is one of the bikes has suffered from the foot falling off the bike stand. The screw had worked itself loose during a ride! Hopefully, this will be repaired soon. Looking forward to miles of assisted cycling.
I’ve had my bike for 3 weeks and I love it. I’m waiting for a knee replacement and needed to find some way to exercise without putting to much stress on my knee and this bike does it for me. I have done miles and it works for me. The only thing I could mention is I think it needs a few more gears. Buy it and love it like me. Highly recommend both Volt and Moons in Ipswich
Fabulous bike. Excellent quality and well built. The first day after delivery I did a 25 mile ride without breaking a sweat. Happily the hard work needed to tackle hills and head winds is a thing of the past for me now. The option to give yourself a good work out is still available, though, by turning off the power. The bike suspension is excellent and soaks up the bumps and vibration associated with rough road surfaces, making riding the bike a pleasure.
For me, the bike including battery is quite heavy so I would imagine carrying it on and off public transport, for example, might not be easy. I would like to be able to firm up the front suspension sometimes but turning the adjuster on the Suntour forks doesn’t seem to do anything.
The bike was sent to my local bike shop, Ross Cycles, who carried out pre-delivery checks and talked me through the operation of the bike before handing it over. Customer service from both Volt and Ross Cycles was excellent.
Overall, a positive purchase experience and a recommended product.
Brilliant ride, excellent components. Motor a little more noisy than I expected but acceptable. Just completed my first 100 miles and enjoyed every minute. I’m 72 and found the folded bike a little cumbersome and heavy (for me), so I bought a VOLT carry bag for the bike. The bag together with the electric winch in my car has made the process much easier. Looking forward to many more miles.
Hi, I bought this Volt bike from Jardine Bikes in Coventry, The manager there could'nt have been more helpful. I've only covered 4 miles on the Volt Metro but what an experience. Up to now it's a fantastic bike.
After along wait we finally got hold of our metro & metro LS and what a revelation, we live on the edge of the Peak District national park these bikes have made it easier to get around. Our thanks must also go to Jack Gee cycles in Northwich for keeping us informed during our wait Terry is a mine of info and very helpful
I have only had the bike for just over a week and have only managed 2 hrs cycling so far. However, Volt have certainly built a very sturdy and quality build bike.
All components seem to be of high quality, especially the suspension on the saddle and front forks and the battery assisted rear wheel. At only £1600 for this bike I think it offers so much - a lot of thought has gone into the security of the bike too, with the rear wheel locking mechanism built in. I purchased the chain lock and this readily fits into the bike security lock mechanism.
I am still working out the best way to move through the electric boost options with the different power settings, so as with all E-Bikes you need to experiment with this, and moving through the gears too to offer the best electric as distance, but not straining the battery.
The handbook is easy to read too and no silly jargon, and is well illustrated.
So far after a very short period I am delighted with the effortless assistance in going up hills and even long inclines.
This bike just takes the strain out of a bad knee for me, but it also let's you decide how to ride, with or without the battery. Avoiding big hills is no longer an issue. The step-through frame is ideal too.
For me this bike is extremely well priced given its quality build over cheaper options in bigger bike stores.
Quality build of both bikes (Metro LS & Metro), which are stylish and most importantly ride well. Early days using them but so far they exceed our expectations and make our introduction to electric biking a pure pleasure. Only slight downside, they are rather heavy and apparently the Metro doesn't come with a spring mechanism holder on the Metro bike - bizarre. Myst mention, great service from the Norwich Volt agent (Mandarin Cycles).
Absolutely love my new bike, I'm enjoying being outdoors again, and now look forward to cycling up hills something I couldn’t do at all on a normal bike, my only criticism is that I’m finding it very difficult to get mirrors that fit so I can see what’s behind me.
I’ve got the Volt Metro LS. It’s very attractive and extremely efficient. I like to use it mainly as a boost when my legs are tired or there are particularly steep hills! I’ve found it excellent for nipping about when we’re in the caravan. We did 45 km on a hilly route one day and still had plenty of battery charge left. It charges up quickly. The bike is very heavy compared to a standard road bike but you’d never know it when you’re riding it. If you have to push it anywhere you can use the boost button to help. Perfect!
Its still early days since I took delivery of my new Volt Metro but so far I'm very pleased with it - very good service from Volt and they managed to deliver the bike 3 weeks or so ahead of schedule, which these days is amazing.
I'm delighted with my new bike, the only negative being the weight as we plan to use them when on our boat. Also impressed by the supplier in Oswestry. Yours Susan Walker
This is a great bike I am only just beginning to get used to it, So far everything is going fine trying to learn the best gearing with the best power but my, powerful it is, one of my better buys thanks JMGarrood.
My wife and I cycle 20-30 miles every day but wanted folding bikes to fit on our boat . We are now enjoying the rolling hills of Devon and Cornwall for the next 3 months, these bikes are incredible no hill has stopped us yet !
After many months deliberating, researching etc. etc. I decided to purchase a Volt Metro to accompany my motorhome. I looked at many different makes and models but kept coming back to the Metro. As part of my research I discovered that there was a dealer for the Volt here in Northern Ireland, Ross Cycles in Castlewellan. (which is not something I could find from other manufacturers) I phoned Ross’s and spoke to the owner John, he said he had a demo Metro available and he suggested I should call and have a look and a test run. To this point I had never ridden or even experienced an EBike other that from reading reports. I decided to call and see what was on offer, John was a “No Pressure” salesman, in fact he let the Metro do the talking, He sorted me with a loan helmet and to my suprise suggested I take it for a good long run down the road. He explained the controls and off I went, it took a few minutes to get confident as it was many years since I had sat on any bicycle, never mind an EBike. I was immediately “Hooked”. Went for about a couple of mile and decided to turn as I was conscious I had come down a big hill and would have to return, To my suprise the return to the shop was effortless. I was in no doubt and decided to place an order. Sadly these EBikes are not stock items and have a reasonably long lead time. The wait was difficult, a few update phone calls to John and the Guy’s at Volt and eventually it was my turn to get my bike. When I called for the pick up I was given a very thorough hand over by John whom I have got to say has a personality which as a customer gives you so much confidence, nothing was too much trouble. I have done about 20 miles at the time of this report and so far I am really impressed. The Metro Ebike is really well spec’d, plenty of power, easy to ride and get used to the gears and the power increments also good security with the swipe card on the controller and wheel lock as standard, I have also purchased the optional chain lock for £30 which I think is essential. I will follow up with some further feedback when I get a few more miles on the clock. Meantime a big thankyou to John at Ross Cycles and the Guy’s at Volt for making this purchase a very pleasant experience. Only problem now is I think I am going to have to get another one for my wife.
I have recently purchased my second Volt bike. I have a Burlington from 2017 and now a Metro. They are both brilliant. I like (very much) that they're made in the UK. Purchasing was easy - although we waited a long time for the Metro (all the virus stuff), but their responsiveness to queries and keeping us updated was brilliant. Service at our local bike shop / Volt representatives is alway perfect. I often get asked about the bikes and always highly recommend them. I love ebikes and won't have any other kind of bike now! I can go places I would NEVER be able to go with a push bike. They are wonderful.
Brilliant new electric bike, keeping me enjoying my pedalling after the sad demise of my nine year old previous e-bike. I am old and I live in the eastern Cairngorms and the four power levels and eight gears make cycling in hilly terrain a pleasure that “makes my day”. A great purchase that I would recommend to anyone.
Well built and high spec bike(s) - bought a Metro and Metro LS to take with us in the Campervan. Not had much more than a test ride or two yet, but looking forward to many miles of electric biking!
I love this bike. Comfy ride with the suspension. Electrics work smoothly. Folds easily. Only disadvantage is it’s heavy but most electric bikes are. I can lift in and out if the boot of my car but I couldn’t carry it up a flight of steps. That aside it’s great.
We are in our mid 70s and are finding that as we get older we need a little help with certain areas of cycling. Early days but we are very pleased so far. Battery assist helped on inclines and when travelling on the promenade against the wind. Made cycling more pleasant .
I feel it is very important to give people ahead an audible warning of your approach. Especially when they have dogs running free. Sensibly this was thought of BUT the very light single "ting" from the tiny pathetic bell provided does no justice to what is otherwise a masterpiece of electronic cycling. I shall be sourcing something more suitable asap to avoid more emergency stops as errant walkers suddenly change direction and have not heard my approach.
Unfortunately, during lockdown, our Metro LS had to be delivered to our home address. Upon opening it could be seen that a side of the box had received quite a blow and the bikes rear mudguard had been cracked as well as one of its support bars bent. After some bar straightening and application of duct tape the bike was usable again. On the other hand, my Metro, delivered a month earlier, was fine. We had to wait quite a few months, due to demand, to receive the bikes and think they were well worth the wait.
Volt Metro bike proved to be the pick of the crop for us - we bought one each!
My wife and I bought a Metro e bike each. We are going off travelling in a motor home and wanted folding bikes. After a lot of research and test rides we chose Volt e bikes. You get lots for your money, the bikes are well built and are packed with features which would be extras on several of the other manufacturers we considered. The whole process was seamless. We went up to the London showroom and spoke to a very knowledgeable salesman who gave us confidence in the bike. There was no hard sales pitch and every question we had was answered well. The bike itself is fantastic. Gears as well as a motor and clever little things like plugs on cables to facilitate a rear wheel change are simply brilliant. We will add photos of our cycling adventures to the website as they occur!
I had a delay in recieving the metro bike. partly due to DPD turning them down but also the other other courier had a poor service. The bike is amazing to ride. I live on a hill and normally struggle with my previous road bike. This is amazing. They also built it for me at no cost. The suspensions really make riding over speed hump smooth. I recommend this product. I am giving it a 4 rather than five as the battery and fork next to battery slot came with a deep scratch. Not sure if volt did this accidently or the parcel guys. Not sure if the scratch will cause rust. I will appreciate if this can resolved.
Volt Metro my first electric folding bicycle, ideal to store in my flat and transport in my car. With 8 gears and four power assistance levels, transform the way I ride, so much easier to climb hills, no longer a struggle, peddling becomes a pleasure. Quick acceleration is achieved by a push down lever to quickly pass pedestrians and cyclists. Eye catching design with quality parts fitted through out.
Ordered a Metro in May direct from Volt as no local agent and in Covid19 lockdown. I received a phone call advising me that, due to exceptional demand, no new ones available. Decided to wait for the next batch, even though I was informed it would be a while, Received delivery mid-August. Now after the first service and 160+ miles all I can say is it was well worth waiting for. It has exceeded my expectations. Build quality good and the electric assist gives me, at over 70, the confidence to get out in the fresh air and even enjoy the Pembrokeshire hills. Based on my experience I recommend Volt and especially the Metro.
Bit of a long lead time for the Metro, but understandable in the circumstances. We were well looked after by Langsett Cycles in Sheffield. This is our second Metro - the first was bought for commuting to work, which worked very well. A new job in a new location made commuting a bit trickier, so the bike was used more for leisure and it coped well on most reasonable surfaces (obviously not designed for mountain biking). Having pushed my old bike up a few long hills whilst my wife sedately pedalled up with power assist, I decided it was time for me to get one (the slightly upgraded model).
The bikes are well built and seem robust, which makes them a little heavy for carrying (although there is an option to wheel them along while folded). They are comfortable to ride and the power assist is easy to use (and very welcome on those long hills).
On our last trip out we managed 40 miles and, with about 75% of it on fairly level ground, we both still had half the charge in the batteries.
We are very pleased with our bikes and they do seem to attract a lot of interest when we are out and about. Highly recommended.
We are bikers but tried e-bikes on holiday in Gozo. We liked them so much we looked for e-bikes in England. Volt bikes were recommended and so we bought a pair of folding e-bikes. We are delighted with them and like the ease of use as well as the help going up hill! In the past few weeks we have done over 200 miles, which shows how much a couple approaching 70 can achieve on your excellent bikes.
I retired some time ago and needed an E-bike to manage the steep hills near my home. The Volt Metro is excellent and has a very good range with the larger battery.
Purchased 2 Metro's, we were able to test ride and found both comfortable and easy to ride safety. The folding mechanism is sturdy albeit the bikes are a little heavier than anticipated. Really happy with our purchase
both my husband and i recently brought metros, after many hundreds of miles on hybrids it was quite sad to part with them, our new metros have opened up a whole you range of cycling, cant wait till we can go to Europe again and go exploring, we are 70&68yrs old and feel it is one of the best moves we have made, would we recommend them? yes as a freiend of ours has recently purchased one after rideing ours
I am extremely happy with my Volt Metro . I love everything on my bike !!!!!! Is very stable and easy to use. The quality Of the material are so extremely quality. The most important for me is made and designed in Uk ;) Thanks again Giseli
We have had our bikes for 2 weeks now and they are the Metro and Metro LS there is only one word to describe them and that is FANTASTIC when we go out we can either use the power of the battery or set the control to low and pedal. The Normal setting is just brilliant to nip along without using too much energy. The low setting you need a bit more effort to get along but we are both in our 70's and find the low setting adequate. When we can, we are out on them, enjoying the fresh air. They fold up nicely and fit in the bags which we have for them to go in. At first getting the bikes into the bag was a bit difficult now it is a piece of cake. Lots of people have asked us about the bikes when we have been out and about and they too are impressed. If you are thinking about getting a folding bike then get a Volt one, the security system on them is brilliant. Both my wife and myself love our VOLT BIKES
My wife and I brought one each of the fold metro bikes they are fantastic easy to ride very well made pleasure to ride her two sisters were so impressed they also purchased them so what more can I say.
Love this company! I think I have spoken to the majority of the workforce and I can truly say... They're all fab! I love my product and my only wish... Is that I'd started cycling sooner! No, but seriously now, the only 'downer' I can see is the lack of cycle-ware i.e. clothing, assessories and covers on their website (as they do with repairs and insurance) then I needn't have gone elsewhere, but I guess they need to give the rest of the market a chance, lol! Like I said... I love them!
Bought my Volt in the lockdown as i was not using the car. Have used it regularly since and i am overall very happy with it.
I like that you can keep fit as it rides like a normal bike but has just enough assistance to take the sting out of hills.
The quality is great and the motor is very quiet, i am 6ft tall and over 14st. but it copes very well.
I do feel that the Volt shop could do better with their customer focus, in so much that there has been no follow up since i bought the bike and no list of service outlets supplied. This is a small gripe and overall happy with my purchase.
Had the metro folding ebike for over a month now really like it. I'm over 60 and need a bit of help sometimes great for little errands (pharmacies) great for enjoyment highly recommend
I bought a Metro and a Metro Ls from ON YOUR BIKE in East Grinstead on the start of the lockdown, fantastic service and very high quality bikes, we wish we had bought them a long time ago-brilliant.
I have tried several electric bikes over the last few years and decided that I wanted a folding model. Having looked at the specs of various bikes and tried a few, I eventually decided to buy a Metro from my local dealer. It is well-designed, has a good spec and
is certainly good value for money. The suspension forks on the front wheels are very welcome especially with 20 inch wheels but of course they add to the weight. It also has a suspension seatpost, so overall a much better ride than I'm used to. So far I have done about 230 miles and, for much of the level road travel and certainly downhill, I simply switch the power off. As expected there is a little resistance when pedalling with the motor off but it is hardly a struggle. Using the motor on the hills takes away any pressure on my knees. While I haven’t carefully measured the mileage a full battery could give me but I would be confident in going well over 50 miles on a single charge. It is only on steep hills that I feel the need to go above the bottom two power levels and much of the time I have it on the lowest power level or off. The SPIN motor on the bike actually feels very powerful. I have ridden up the same steep hills on other electric bikes and this one seems to require the least effort. Like most folding e-bikes it is quite heavy but even as a 10 stone OAP I can just manage to lift it into the car. Unusually for a folder, the bike has a built in ABUS frame lock (cafe lock). You can also buy a chain which will attach to the frame lock to better secure the bike. There is even a key fob included which activates the electrics on the bike as an added security feature. This can be turned off if you find it inconvenient. It would be nice to have some sort of clasp to hold the wheels together when folded as can be seen on some other folding bikes. My chain has come
off a couple of times so maybe some adjustments needed when I return it to my local dealer for its first service. It is a bit confusing that pictures of this bike on the website show it with two different handlebar posts. Mine has one which is offset to the head tube and is angled away from the rider. There is a second one which comes straight out of the head tube and is therefore closer to the rider. I tried this version and felt the handlebars were too close to me. I am not sure if you can opt for either version. My bike has Schwalbe Big Apple puncture resistant tyres while others have Kenda. It also has Shimano brakes and gears. Perfectly good quality components for this price point. It is well made and looks good. I enjoy riding the bike and I doubt it can be beaten for the price. It has certainly helped maintain my sanity in these difficult times.
If my volt metro is not used for any...starting up problems
If my volt metro is not used for any length of time even though the battery is fully charged the computer fob will not activate the computer situated on the handlebars. Any one else with similar problems.
I'm really pleased with my volt metro. Super comfortable and super reliable so far. I do a 22 mile return journey. Hendon central to London bridge and back
Bike delivered by local dealer, fully assembled with a good explanation of operation and maintenance. Very pleased with bike, folding 20inch wheels. Rides much better than anticipated, electric assistance great for local hills.
Great bike easy to use fast enough and good battery life bit more expensive than other bikes but well worth the extra for build quality and equipment supplied on the bike my wife has ms and loves the freedom the bike gives her I would recommend volt bikes .
Great bike , needs small effort going up steep hills , did a trip that took 11/2 hours on push bike , 35 mins on electric bike , easy to manage changing speeds/ gears .A joy to have this bike.
Best bike I've ever owned. The bike makes me laugh everytime I ride it. I've done 100 miles on mine so far. It is beautifully made with a real eye for detail. Their own drive system is faultless. There when you want it and not when you don't. I cycle up a 1 in 6 hill every day and it sails it. I get the exercise I want and not when I don't want. Like the hill. I have the Metro which has a touch key start system, computer, lights, locks and a fantastic pannier rack with built in bungees. All built in. It's a very sturdy bike and deals with bumps and cobbles with ease. You also get a bag for the battery, a fluorescent jacket, tool. It's a generous package and makes it feel even better value. I cycle it to work and fold it up and put it in the cleansers cupboard so don't have to leave it in the street. And can fold it to take it in the train. If you don't fold the handlebars it's easy to push along folded. I had a small issue with the bike but the shop took it straight in and made sure I was happy. They have brilliant after service . If you want a top quality bike built by a British company with great customer service look no further. Simply brilliant.
I recently bought the volt metro and have been very pleased I must say. I researched for months and as a precision engineer of over 45 years I was really impressed with the quality. I ordered the bike from Toby at the head office after a brilliant test ride, and it was as promised delivered to my local shop Pound Lane cycles in Epsom for final assembly and set up by the owner Lou who couldn't do enough to help. All in all a great purchase
A very good bicycle worth every penny. I bought the METRO model and I am really pleased with its quality and efficiency. Early days since I bought it -fifteen days ago- but no problem at all until now. Totally recommended.
Bought a Black Metro from Volt, the bike is fantastic, the service I received was top class and everything went smoothly. The bike was bought through the Green Commute Initiative, and I couldn't be happier.
Bought a Volt Metro about 2 months ago for daily commuting in London. This bike is amazing! It's very easy to ride and love when you get a little boost when needed as it has a throttle which you can use especially when you start. The battery lasts as described in the specs. The only con is a heavy and make it hard to carry it. All the guys from Volt are very friendly and helpful. It's a great value for money bike!!
An excellent bike, easy to ride for someone new to cycling with the aim of using the car less to commute. The folk's at Volt are friendly and helpful, l would definitely recommend!
As there are so many e bikes on the market it took me a long time looking at customer reviews, and after a lot of deliberation decided to buy a Volt Metro. I have certainly not regretted my decision, I am very impressed with the quality of the Metro, and it is great to ride. I had a slight problem with a faulty charger, which was replaced by post very quickly, so cannot speak too highly of the service given by the Volt team.
being over seventy with weak knee joints I decided to go for a Voltbike to give me help with a little bit of exercise. The power boost is ideal for getting up slight inclines and I was surprised at the speed the bike can go as long as the pedals are turning. I also switch off the power at the handle bars on flat surfaces to give my knee's a work out. Would certainly recommend this bike, it costs a little bit more but you pay for quality.
The Volt Metro electric folding bike feels cumbersome however that being said it is sturdy and well made. The electric assist easily escalates to 15 mph along a flat road however it is pure leg power to get it above this and at times it feels like the breaks are on once you try to go over 16mph - it's very hard to achieve 17mph or over unless you are going downhill.
There are 4 power indication bars and when the battery is on the last of its 4th bars the Volt Metro can feel very heavy and slow and this is going along a flat surface.
What I like about the Volt Metro electric folding bike is that it has a small visual display screen mounted on the left handle bar which provides numerous data, such as miles travelled, current speed, etc. and it also has a bell for warning pedestrians or cars both of these can easily be accessed by your left hand. On the right handle bar are your 8 gear leaver changes for up and down. Both handle bars have break leavers. The front and rear mud guards are a bonus along with the kick stand. What I like most are the additional security features, such as the magnetic fob to unlock the small electric screen which indicates your speed. You can lock your back wheel with an inbuilt lock and for an additional 30 pounds you can buy a metal chain which is custom fit to these electric bikes thereby securing your bike to a fixed rail. I like the reflective line which runs around each of the tyres on both sides. The tyres are said to be very durable against sharp objects. I like that I can use this electric bike in the rain. I don't like that I can't push the jack plug for charging the bike fully into its charging port. This does not give me a secure sense of it being charged properly although after 2.5 hours of the red light showing it does eventually change to green. I would like if the Volt Metro electric bike could recharge as you are riding or breaking this would be great with helping to push forward renewable energy.
The Volt Metro bike is the best thing since sliced bread!!! Great, it folds up into the back of my car so I can take it on holiday in my caravan, the electric assist is brilliant for my ageing legs, making cycling a pleasure again. Used it in Wales on the Mawddach Trail several times.Would`nt want to be without it now after only 2 weeks. Can't wait to take it on the trails in the Peak District. Very pleased with a great bike.
We purchased two Volt Metro bikes, about six weeks ago and have cycled around 180 miles so far, exploring the countryside and having a great time! The power is amazing and we've climbed some really steep hills in the Mendip area. The turbo boost is wonderful for getting going on hills from stop, or just generally getting a boost away when required. The gears are very easy to use. The saddle is very comfortable. The bike is extremely easy to fold up and reassemble, although it is quite weighty, especially with the larger battery. It is also extremely easy to charge the battery. You do have to adjust from riding a normal bike, to riding a bike with smaller wheels, however the bike is a pleasure to ride and has given us freedom to explore and enjoy life to the full. We can not recommend highly enough.
We bought two metro folding bikes - they are really great! The only reason I would rate them 4* is that they are really heavy and more difficult to get in the car than expected, it takes two of us to lift them in!
They do fold and that is fine but not very compactly! I wouldn't describe them as a commuter bike - the thought of lugging them on a train then on the underground would be impossible!
A big thank you to the guys at Volt bikes. Their commitment to to service does not end when the warranty runs out. The service given to my Volt Metro at their London H.Q was impeccable. Aptly named - the bike is so agile and manoeuvrable that it's a joy to ride around town. I also love the fact that I can take it on National rail without booking. Highly recommended!
bought two bikes, customer service from Edinburgh was great where i picked the bikes up 400 miles from my home and paid london volt direct . have not used them yet in storage as moving house but the bikes look amazing
We purchased 2 No Metro Folding e bikes and the whole experience had be superb. From purchase to collection at our local shop only took 4 eorking days. The bikes themselves are great quality and very comfortable to ride. We have not put them down since we got them and find the operating system very easy to use and navigate
The Volt electric bike I bought is very easy to ride even up hills. I also like the built-in rear wheel bike lock for extra security, but I still bought a strong D-lock.
I love the bike. Most of the time I can ride without the motor as not too heavy. star missing because the booklets are hopeless. No information on how the computer works or the folding process.
Bike is easy to ride , power setting enable me to ride up hills and into wind without really struggling controls are intuitive and power comes in quickly and breaks are effective. Odd feature is gently climbing. Or into strong wind and get to 15 mph suddenly lose assistance , I know this due to law. Computer display is clear to read but can,t read what gear you are since this is angled forward and not towards rider. Pleased we bought the bike.
My Volt e-bike is excellent and has made cycling through very hilly mid Devon a pleasure. Only one small niggle. There was no cable tie for the front brake cable, which as a result flopped about and rubbed against the front tyre, abrading all of the cable casing in one location. I aim to get this fixed under warranty when the bike goes in for its complimentary six-week service at the dealers where I bought it (Exmouth Cycles).
I bought a Volt Metro 3 years ago. Quite a good bike initially but had persistent problems with repetitive clunking noises coming from the hub and difficult gear changes. I took it back to the dealer in Uckfield, Sussex but it came back just the same. Rang Volt who arranged replacement of the whole hub since when it seems to be ok but sometimes difficult to change gear still. Then, on my suggestion (and a local shop) my partner also bought a Metro, a later model with a different hub motor. From day one it alerted anyone within 200 yds with loud squeaks coming from the hub every one revolution of the rear wheel. The brakes were very poor from new too. I took it back to the same dealer (now gone out of business) and surprise, on collection, it was just the same. This cost me £80 - with just 100 miles on the clock. Should have been a free warranty job but I was not in a mood to argue, just sigh. So.....I called Volt again who arranged to have it fixed at another bike shop (not one of their dealers as they had none locally now) for the brakes and hub to be sorted. I called a few days later to collect it - £50 please. I was told by Volt that the cost of the work would be covered by them. The shop 'knew nothing' of this. On collection I tried the brakes in the shop - they were even worse than before and the hub shrieks (enough to hear 200 yds away) were still present. So.............£130 down and multiple visits to and from dealers with nothing changed, I called Volt again who said they would arrange a fix but I never heard from them again. My impressions: Hipster business, indifferent, poor communication skills, don't really care that much and seemingly cannot produce one let alone two properly functioning bikes. Brakes are simple enough, why can't they work properly ? Hardly surprising really, they use crappy Chinese parts combined with a whatever attitude. My advice: Buy a German e-bike. You have been warned. If you've read this Volt, don't bother to contact me again, I've given you up as a hopeless case.
Found exactly what we were looking for, thanks to our local bike shop too. Ebikes that fold and will go in the back of our hatchback car. Spotted this via Silversurfers
My first e bike and the best for my wife and i both fold and go in the boot and we can cycle anywhere we like great product awesome quality will recommend to friends and family
Great bikes - have purchased a Kensington for use at home (following knee replacement ops!) & a Metro for taking in the campervan. Had to wait a few weeks for the bike locks but worth the wait - great service too from the guys at Volt and A1 Bikes in Braintree.
As a pensioner with health problems, the bike has given me a lot of freedom to move about, easily.Metro is a good bike and really gives that boost when pedaling, and it makes it so easy to do...
Long wait to get the bike but... the bike is excellent for commuting!
I've ordered a Volt Metro bike on Volt online store and, straight after completing the purchase I've received a phone call from a member of staff to inform the bike was out of stock and it was expected to be delivered in "no longer than 2 weeks". I have accepted to wait although I think there should have been any sort of information on the website to inform the bike was out of stock. Two and half weeks later I've called Volt to get an update on the delivery date since I hadn't received the bike or heard from anyone from Volt. Again, I was told "the bike was expected to be delivered within the next 2 weeks" which was annoying. I finally got my bike after a long 4 1/2 weeks wait. I use this bike for commuting and I'm really happy with it. Although, the left pedal broke within the first week of cycling, I must say that this time, the customer service provided by Volt was excellent and I soon got my pedal fixed. I'm not sure if this is an usual manufacture problem or if I was just unlucky. I haven't experienced any problems with the bike since and I'm really happy with its performance as it is easy to store, set up and ride. Excellent bike for commuting.
Good E bike which I bought instead of a mobility scooter as I could not see myself going down the road at 4 mph. It was a bit of a risky thing to do, but I am please I did as the bike is so easy to ride and gets me around at a good speed. Not bad for someone who is 81 years young.
I also ride a push bike for my daily commute but plan to use this on the days I would take the car because I'm feeling lazy and for the short weekend trips I'd make by car because put off by hills. It's easy to fold and fits in my mini (back seats down). The features like the integrated lock and lights, the display and the pannier rack/elastic strap/spring keeper thing are great and the boost lever for fast get-aways at traffic lights/junctions is really handy. It's easy to set up and just ride away and my sleek, black version was admired in the office. Duncan at Leith Cycles in Edinburgh & Toby and Elliott of Volt Bikes in London have been really friendly and helpful - service is top notch.
This is my first electric bike and I have to say I am impressed with its ability to climb hills with ease. I love the design and small frame of the bike making easy to store in my small flat, and how it makes my commuting much easier, and battery life is good. This has the latest upgrades to it - electronic security locking so it would be useless to a thief without the key fob. The display shows 5 bars of power, although the battery itself has 4 lights for power so I am unsure which is best to tell the amount of power left. The only negatives are to do with the folding - You have to use something to keep the wheels together or they just open on their own, a bit awkward when rolling it because of this. Bought my bike from Pete in Halesowen and I can't fault his service for building the bike or VOLT for delivering the bike to his shop. I am looking forward to many years of service from the bike. All in all a really great bike and I am very pleased I bought it.
Now on my second VOLT Metro e-bike after having ridden 7000 + miles on my first one. Lightweight and foldable, it is perfect for my commute to work. The newer version does not disappoint. Excellent performance, sophisticated technology and slick modern design. Also happy to discover that the battery charges even faster than the last one. Bought and collected the e-bike from the VOLT head office in London Bridge where the staff are very helpful. Great fast service as usual. Amazing e-bike! I would recommend this brand.
First the bike is amazing - well built and intelligently designed. I have the Metro and love it. But the service was not so impressive. It took an age to arrive (months) and I kept having to chase. My advice - buy from dealer not Volt themselves - though of course this could just be a one off experience!
They just get a 4 stars, and that is simply because they seem like a decent bunch working there, and I got what I asked for no probs. There were a couple of silly hiccups. I had to wait a while for my Volt Metro and when it was send to store for build/pickup, they couldn't get payment for building it due to it being the weekend and Volt were shut (just pay em from the off, people). So look, I paid to have it handed over and am investing the money back for accessories, all is well.
Good points: solid . Well finished & pleased with both bikes. Bad points:pedal stuck. Wires loose. Wire to light cut. Handle bars needed adjustment. Instruction book poor & inaccurate.
I have the folding Volt Metro and it for use when using my motorhome or Toyota Rav4 and negates the need for an external bicycle rack. Very well built and robust, it is more than adequate for my rides in the countryside. The battery life depends on how much I pedal f course, but I find that I seldom use it above position 2 whch is more than required on walkways and towpaths. So far I have done a 12 mile round trip taking in some main roads and hills and the battery has not indicator has only lost one light as I returned home. The folded bike should have some sort of lock or clast to keep it together as it is a struggle to pick up and walk any distance. Also maybe a couple of small rollers on the bottom bracket would all it to be rolled along for short distances. Other than that i am very pleased with the machine and the support from Volt when I cintacted them with an enquiry about the operation of the machine
I bought the Volt Metro mid September and am absolutely delighted with it. I can climb any hills in North Wales and I can put as little or as much effort as I choose to by setting the output of the motor. I have bought the big battery as I go on long rides. The only thing I don't like are the design of the pedals. The fat spindle in the middle of the pedal means that there is nothing for the shoes to grip on and when it is damp it is easy for the feet to slip off the pedals. It's no big deal, I am looking into buying a new set of pedals
I am very pleased with my Volt Metro. As an unfit 64-year-old it has enabled me to cycle again with a bit of confidence that I will be able to tackle hills, let's be honest, small gradients as well, and not give up half way. But I am also pleased with Volt's after-sales service as well. I stripped the thread on the right-hand crank which with hindsight I could have prevented but my inexperience as a cycle user meant that the loosening of the pedal went un-noticed (until it fell off that is). However less than 24 hrs from my phone call to Volt a new crank had been delivered without charge. Well done Volt. And the staff are friendly and helpful too.
My Metro is quite a heavy bike and not as easy as I thought it would be to put into the car boot. (My wife's Cross City is much lighter and easier to handle.) The front disc brake does not run true and has a high spot that grabs when the brake is applied. The rear brake screeches when lightly applied going down hill. The bike doesn't freewheel very well as there appears to be quite a lot of drag from the motor. The biggest disappointment is the battery, which discharges alarmingly quickly. In forty two miles, I have had to charge it six times, varying between just one green light remaining or two green lights remaining before charging. This is despite significant pedal input from me. If this is as good as it gets, then I wish I had opted for the higher powered battery. As it is, there is no way on earth that I could go as much as ten miles on a full charge with the existing battery, which is spoiling the experience for me. Again, for comparison, I did my usual run the other day on my wife's Cross City and it's battery was still showing full at the end of my ride. My bike is in with the dealer for a shakedown, so I hope things will be much improved when I collect it from them in a couple of days time.
It's both a blessing and a curse. The 0mph to 15mph acceleration with assistance is better than you can do on a non electric bicycle but you cannot sustain a speed of say 20mph once the motor stops as you will feel the 21.5kgs weight of the bicycle particularly on your knees. As long as you cycle at 16 mph to 17mph its fine but above that it is not. It's nice to strap your bag on the rear carrier to avoid a sweaty back but make sure it's tied down well as with most of the weight being in the rear it will get bounced around a lot from going over potholes or sunken drains and can fall down to the side. So you will beat all other bicycles from the lights but once they get to 20mph they will leave you for dead. Riding downhill at 24.7mph the front did feel a bit twitchy. Overall it's a good bicycle but you know that you are cheating when riding one.
Purchased 2 VOLT Metro folding e-bikes from Electric Bike Store in London in September 2018. The assembly of the bikes was delayed because we had to rely on a local Worcester bike store. We collected them on 26 September and we are delighted with the bikes. We use them for leisure purposes only and they are good for exploring canal cycles paths.
I have a Volt bike, I rate it 5 stars. It works well and all the parts of it are high quality branded components. Volt UK the company is a mess they promise everything in "a couple of weeks" knowing all the time it will take 2 months or more. Volt are short of bikes batteries and accessories. I ordered a black Metro and a security chain to fit its lock on 22-07-18 it arrived at my dealer in Dorking on 16-08-18 but the front mudguard was missing this arrived 31-08-18 minus the metal stays to fix it on with. The chain would be "in a couple of weeks". Luckily we could take the stays off a white demonstrator .I saw the dealer today 12-10-18 and asked about the security chain he was told 10 days ago "a couple of weeks" .I have just phoned Volt who said that a new shipment from China is coming in November hopefully ! Volt are victims of their own success the bikes are good but they can't meet demand.
We bought two Metros and I'm very pleased with mine. They seem tough and the electric power is cleverly integrated. Overall build quality seems good. The gears are a little noisy and the battery can rattle in its holder, but after nearly 100 miles, the experience has been positive. The people at Volt are helpful and collection from a local dealer was OK. I would have preferred to assemble the bike myself and have it delivered directly to my home, but that's how it works. The lights weren't connected to the controller on my bike, which might say more about the pre-delivery check at the dealer than Volt. It only took five minutes to fix, but I work on motorcycles and cars and it could have meant a trip to a dealer, which is a nuisance.
I decided to look at buying a folding electric bike having previously enjoyed cycling but not having ridden for more than 15 years since having kids. I am an unfit 46 year old with a husband who loves cycling a I thought an electric bike might be the way to go to get fitter without killing me and putting the enjoyment into some time for us to get out as a couple. WHAT A REVELATION! I purchased the Volt Metro from UK Electric Bike Centre in Biddenden. Firstly, I have to say Marcus and Amanda are fabulous and know their stuff. But the bike - well suffice to say I am a convert. The upright position is perfect for someone like me who has coccyx problems but also cannot tolerate the pressure being on the pubic bone. The bike changes gears smoothly and I was able to go up a steep hill I would never have attempted before thanks to the motor giving me the extra power - its like someone pushing you up there. I still feel like I have done some exercise but am not so out of breath I think Im going to be sick!!! I LOVE IT! The only down side is the weight so getting it in and out of a car is not easy but its still do-able. Other than that I would highly recommend the Metro.
I’m definitely a born again cyclist. Being of a retirement age, the media are forever telling me to remain active preferably with a low impact activity and the Volt bike fulfills that perfectly. Every hill feels like someone comes behind me and gives me a push and keeps pushing until I reach the top. So, don’t sit there reading this, go and try one, you won’t want to give it back. It’s a British company with superb customer support and really can’t say enough about the product quality. Can’t stay, gotta go for another hill climb.
Fantastic reliable electric bike - go nowhere else! Gina
I love my volt metro step through bike. I've had it for over two years now and I've rediscovered my love for cycling. For over 30 years my partner and I have cycled around the uk and Europe both with and without children and gone through the whole gamut of bikes including sidecars for children (scarey - don't buy one), trailer bikes and a tandem as I got older. Running out of steam himself my partner bought me a volt e-bike and approaching 70, I now steam around London at top speed and cycled around France on it this year on our honeymoon. It's a great bike and as it's quite small I get away with walking into shops with it. The only drawback is its weight but I find young men very happy to run up stairs with it at railway stations to show off their youthful vigour. The staff at Volt are great. I've just had my control panel on the handlebars replaced free of charge and a quick overhaul. I sailed back to Finsbury Park at top speed on a bike as good as new! Fantastic!
I had very little contact with Volt bikes, other than to place an order for an electric folding bike which was delivered to my local bike shop. The bike was set up for me and a free service is offered after 6 weeks. The bike has been fine so far. Plus points: It's comfortable with good suspension and brakes, easy to fold and handle, nippy, ok to cycle without the motor on. Minus points: The computer is slightly awkward to reach, the power levels are uneven, the battery gets switched on at the rear instead of at handlebars.
I absolutely love my volt metro bike. I can cycle with my very fit husband and keep up! I just need to grow some muscles to lift it upstairs. I also really like the added security bar through the back wheel. I recommend this bike to everyone.
The bike its self seems to be ok so far and is easy enough to operate and ride but time will tell as I have only done about 50 miles.Bit of a hassle with delivery dates as the bike was about 3 weeks late which ate into the end of the summer. We were going to order another bike but as we wanted one quick we decided on a "Battribike" and bought one from one a local dealer which came in 3 days although it was more expensive. To be fair Volt are an easy company to get in touch with which in todays world is rare and appreciated.
Very good bike, saves me a lot time getting to work . Will be looking at getting a bigger bike later this year and my wife having the fold up one . Only down fall is lost the battery key and got to buy complete lock as they do not do replacement keys.
I bought a 2018 Metro folding bike. It is great to ride but the speedometer and mileometer stopped working after 69 miles so the bike is currently sitting in a shop waiting to be repaired. I am not happy. Furthermore, the back light dropped off into the road on the second day I took it to work, then the front light almost followed it a few days later. I am hoping things will get better as it is brilliant for going uphill. It is very heavy to lift into a car and I would certainly recommend removing the battery first. I also bought an elasticated cord to hold it together when lifting it, as recommended by another reviewer, as otherwise it unfolds itself.
I am riding a Volt Metro at the moment trialling it to see if it's ideal for my ride to work each day. I have found that I need more gears for cycling as my feet go one to the dozen at speed. The battery usage is good and the power take up excellent for a small wheeled and framed bike . I am glad I have the chance to try this model first . The technology is excellent as is the design and make up of this model.
Giving 5 stars because even though I had a problem with the battery not holding the charge, the dealer consulted Volt in London & they sent a new battery. The bike is comfortable, sturdy & the power is so good when riding into the wind.
My wife and I purchased two metro volt electric bikes recently and are very pleased with them. Lyle delivered them to our house and he was very polite and helpful. The bikes are not the cheapest on the market, but I believe you get what you pay for,in a word quality! I am pleased a friend recommended the bikes to us,as he had done his research before purchasing and has no regrets about buying a volt metro bike like us.
Love my Metro. Great value and great attention to detail, such as the premium parts used in its construction. I'm not sure it really needs 8 speeds, but more is better than less. The only criticism I'd make is that the suspension is on the hard side. Volt staff also helped me source an Orange coloured bike and arranged for it to be shipped from a nearby shop to my home.
A simple fault developed with the pedal end caps on both our Volt Metro's; basically they fell off. Having not used the cycles I decided to raise the problem with my local dealer when the cycles were serviced after the 1st year. They managed to find replacements but these also fell off. Contacted Volt direct to ask for a couple of replacements to be sent to me and Basically all they could offer were the supply of new pedals at my cost as pedals are not covered by the 2 year warranty! I regard this as very poor customer service for bikes costing over £2000 this is simply unacceptable. I ended up sorting the problem by finding end caps on E-Bay. Bikes are in fact excellent however, Volt need to significantly polish up their customer skills and start offering some goodwill and old fashioned customer service. It would appear that having sold you the bikes forget any help. I only hope nothing serious goes wrong and hope that it's covered by the so-called 2 year warranty.
Excellent purchase (Volt Metro) - impressed with the quality of the components and the purchase process. Only slight problem was that it didn't come with a manual but excellent response from the Customer Services team who emailed a pdf copy straight away. Bought on the recommendation of my brother who has a similar bike and it seem that Volt have put some small incremental improvements onto my bike eg properly waterproofed cable connectors and stainless bolts etc
Hard to fold carry bag waste of time peddle fell off and stripped threads on second day of holiday to Scotland bought 2 fold up bikes one wouldn't pull wife up hill spent a lot off money dissapointed
I'm so happy with my volt bike, it's really well made, very sturdy. Cycling is fun again, I can keep up with my husband now, I even overtake him on the hills !!
I ordered my Volt Metro ebike direct from Volt as there was`nt any shops that stocked them near to where i live, i did have to wait several weeks for it as it was out of stock but when it arrived to my home i was very pleased with it, i think it is a cracking bike and can`t fault it at all.
After suffering a heart atttack last year I purchased a folding metro ebike. It has helped me enormously mentally and physically get better as I cannot drive presently.Iam surprised how quick it is and I have not ridden a bike since I was fourteen now nearly seventy two the we bike is great and fairly gets me about pity about the inconsiderate car drivers.Bike and service great bought the bike in cj performance bikes Cramlington I live in Glasgow.
Very pleased with delivery to a local cycle shop. Good quality soundly made bike. Goes like the wind! Would recommend to anyone wanting a trusty sensible electric bike.
What a bike. Makes going to work a joy. Getting there and back is so easy, avoiding all heavy traffic. Has made travelling easy again. My car is now almost redundant. Can recommend this form of travel as the best ever.
Bought 2 months ago from a friendly helpful shop in London rd. Brighton. No criticism apart from that bell and the on/off battery button could be more distinct. A brilliant fun ride which is also safer through having that extra power to get past awkward situations.
Repeated requests on how to obtain a second set of battery keys ignored
The bike is great! However, I've requested repeatedly for information in how to obtain a second set if keys for the battery lock, and no reply was forthcoming. NB. After this review I got a speedy friendly response with helpful advice!
Purchased the Volt Metro bike from "The Bike Shop" in Arnold, Nottingham. Have had the bike for the past 3 months and have been very pleased with its performance. It looks as is very sturdy and looks as though quality parts have been used. The bike is easy to fold-up and although a little heavy to lift with the battery on it is still manageable. I bought the Volt after reading reviews and also a electric fold-up cycle was required to fit in a small space in our camper van. Overall I am happy with the purchase. I was very pleased with the staff at the Arnold bike shop as they spent time advising as to the working/instructions of the Votlz Metro. A free check-up/service after 6 weeks. Only one small "niggle" is that a strap or other securing method should be included as when the bike is folded, (very easy) you need 2 hands to pick it up and keep it from trying to open. I have resorted to using a "bungy" cord to stop it from opening
I've had my Volt Metro for 3 months now. I'm very pleased with the performance and range. The only slightly annoying thing is that the saddle and seat post has to be removed or raised a lot to remove the battery for charging. I also found the seat post sometimes moved downwards during a ride so I've put a ring of tape around the seat post to mark the correct saddle height. Overall I'm very pleased and would recommend.
The bike arrived promptly and is working well - it was very well packaged, and I was really pleased to find that the prior adjustments to the brakes and gear change had all been made correctly (unlike a new bike I collected from Halfords some years ago). There are some minor areas for improvement: - an email, text or other message re delivery time would be very helpful (I almost missed it). Also some support documentation for the parts (like how to change the light batteries, adjust the mechanical disk brake and so on) would have been useful. Ideally I would like an "idiots guide" to be provided teaching best use and control of the electric assistance - I found it a bit unpredictable at times (e.g. unexpected wheelie when pulling away quickly) which could call a fall on slippery surfaces. Having said that its great fun to ride on full boost - brings back memories of my hooligan on a motorcycle days.
I am a very insecure and inexperienced cyclist but as soon as I got on this fold down bike I was off like a whippet ! It fitted easily into the boot of our Kia Ceed and the saddle is so comfortable that I easily cycled 50km in France with no 'ill effects' whatsoever . Can't recommend it highly enough !
Very good, friendly company with which to deal. My only suggestion is that the Metro fold up bike has bigger gears, as when I'm using assistance level 4, the top gear doesn't take me much past the assistance level. I can only do about 17/18 mph on the level. A bigger gear would be an improvement. People on ordinary bike go past me. The bike itself is very sturdy and well made, perhaps a little too heavy (48 pounds) It should be possible to make it lighter with modern engineering technology. I'm glad I bought it though. It brings a smile to your face, when the motor kicks in and it should last for years.
I have been had an electric cycle for the past 15 years but it was time that it needed replacing.I purchased my Volt Metro in June 2016 after extensive research into modern e-bikes. Having suspension on the front forks and seat post ensures a comfortable ride. The bike does not rattle over bumps. Good to see the speedo is in MPH and can be programmed to KPH too. I am very pleased with my purchase and recommend anybody looking for a folding electric bike needs look no further.
I bought my VOLT Metro to allow me to put the bike in the boot of my Nissan Micra. This allows me have away days in the surrounding countryside with my friend. I live in the Scottish Borders where the landscape is undulating to say the least! The bike has coped with every hill I've gone up. I find I only use level one or two on the motor as I still want to do all of the flat work and some small gradients. When it gets a bit more difficult then the motor gives me a helping hand just like a wee push from behind. Great! My longest trip so far has been over 36miles which is about the limit of recent previous trips on a pedal only bike. I used to cycle much longer distances but those days are now I distant memory. I'm still trying to gauge the amount of battery I use, taking into consideration the terrain, power level input (electric and leg), use of gears and distance travelled. All in all this bike does all that want from it. I bought my bike from my local dealer who I have known for several years therefore I cannot make any personal judgment about Volt as a company. I trust my dealer's relationship with the company.
Fantastic bikes, excellent on hills or in windy weather. A pleasure and easy to use. Battery life very good. Worth the money. Makes cycling still a pleasure, despite being older and not in perfect health. Thought cycling days were a thing of the past, but not so, can still really enjoy it. Recommend Volt electric bikes.
Very happy with bikes, except they have design fault in not being able to lock ignition when leave bikes, if they got stolen anyone could carry on using them. As our previous electric bikes had a lock to the battery power when left.
Bought two Volt Metro bicycles with the larger batteries! A Metro LS for my wife and a Metro for me! If you are looking for a fantastic form of transport then I would recommend the Volt. I use mine everyday for a 25 mile round trip commute over very hilly terrain. I cannot recommend this bike enough. Fantastic build quality, very quiet motor and great fun to ride! No longer do hills fill me with dread, can wear work clothes as you no longer sweat your cobbs of cycling! To say I love it is an under statement. Charging process takes about four hours use about a third of the battery on my commute! Bought them from Velo Smith in Plymouth who arranged a test ride! Volt after sales is very good. My wife and I are in our fifties and often go for long rides together. Get a Volt Ebike hit the trail and never look back, recommended!
We purchased two Volt Metro Folding Bikes, having had ordinary folding bike previously we found the Volt bikes very stable and pleasant to ride having a longer wheelbase. The gearing is a little low as we have them in top gear most of the time but realise it has to be at a ratio suitable for hill climbing. They are heavy even without the battery but when you look at the build quality and the power the frame and wheels have to take it is understandable. I would recommend the larger battery and are so pleased we purchased them when ordering the bikes. We would recommend the Volt Metro over many others I tried when deciding to purchase.
I bought a Volt Metro folding bike to use locally and take away with me on motorhome trips. I am delighted with it, it performs better than expected. You can buy cheaper but don't, I nearly did and I am glad I didn't. The bike is surprisingly fast, in speed setting 4 or A just a slight turn of the pedals has you flying away, even at 1 or 2 you get a good deal of assistance. On a trip to hilly Dorset I did find that you still have to put quite a bit of effort in to get up some inclines, but with a non powered bike I would have been walking and pushing! The gearing seems strange, I have so far only used 6,7,and 8 finding no need to go lower. The only downside of the purchase has been the customer service side from Volt in London - poor communication regarding payment and delivery. I collected from Onyerbike in Bournemouth and they were fine.
See update below. Rickety, lots of rattling, mostly battery rocking about in cage but there's loose sounding elements in drivetrain, feels like it skips a few teeth on the chainring every now and then (it doesn't actually skip, this is just my description of how it feels) - I don't know if it's the motor or whether it's not been assembled correctly by the dealer. The battery level display on battery (not the handlebar mounted computer-that's fine) is totally inaccurate - reads depleted when it still has over half charge left. Battery does work fine but on contacting Volt there was no offer to replace battery so it's going to be difficult to sell as I'd have to convince potential purchasers that the battery is actually fine, despite what it says. This is my first electric bike so I don't know if all this is normal, but I expected better from a bike costing £1400! UPDATE The local dealer has fixed the above problems (took an unacceptable amount of time though) and Volt have swapped the battery for a new one. So, final impressions - Volt are v good - but seem to be at the mercy of the local dealers who assemble the bike. 3 stars due to this - perhaps if I'd gone to Volt direct it would have been 5 stars.
I have my metro about two years now, my daughter knocked it over and snapped the little mount that holds the front light. I couldn't find the mount anywhere online. I emailed Volt to point me in the right direction as to where I could buy a new one. They phoned me the next day and sent me a new one completely free. Fantastic customer service..
Having conducted extensive research into folding e-books this customer elected to buy a Volt cycle. The Volt Metro was tried through Velo-Smith of Plymouth and it was through them the bike was purchased. The process was seamless and relaxed and after 3 months I remain entirely satisfied with my purchase. These bikes are well built and comfortable to ride. Whilst given a comprehensive run through the bike features by Velo-Smith I would encourage Volt to include a technical guide expanding on the bike features. The electric drive is a joy when old legs tire.
I spent a LOT of time researching the e-bikes currently on the market and reading customers' reviews. I eventually (after test riding a few) decided on the Volt Metro......certainly one of the more expensive makes......but I'm very pleased with it. It's only possible to use FULL stars when rating it here, and I have given it all 5. However, in truth, I would have preferred to rate it at 4.5 stars. It's a very good bike indeed, but it's not perfect. I bought my Volt Metro for three reasons: (i) To be able to fold-up and use on any train at any time. (ii) To be able to transport it easily in my car without having to use a cycle carrier. (iii) To cycle / tour long distances without getting exhausted.
So in the few short weeks I've had it, how's it shaping up?
Well, it folds really easily and in seconds. Yes, it's quite heavy as several reviewers have commented - but if you're just lifting it on and off a train, or in and out of your car, does that really matter? Actually, I've discovered that by using a short bungey chord to hold it securely together in the folded position, the wheels remain parallel and it's fairly easy to grasp the mid-frame handle and just wheel it along. It's not really designed as a touring bike and as yet I've not had the opportunity to try it out in that role. However, it's clearly robust and comfortable to ride, and I'm confident it will cope with several days touring. You'd have to be sure that you travel pretty light and that you can recharge OK at each daily campsite or B&B. The Volt website offers two types of battery with this model, a 10Ah (with supposedly a range of around 40 miles) or a 16Ah (which they reckon should take you roughly 60 miles). I've bought a 16Ah battery and an additional 12Ah battery, which apparently they've just introduced and is not yet on their website as an option. I find the realistic range is about 40-50 miles with the 16Ah and 35-40 miles with the 12Ah. Together, these two batteries should give me a range of I hope, around 75+ miles. I find that for me, cycling along with the pedal-assist set at 'level 3' or 'level 4' ('level 5' being the maximum) means I'm getting to put in a reasonable amount of effort without ever really getting tired, even when encountering the big hills. It sure puts a smile on your face when you find that no hill is any longer to be feared! A word of advice though, DO USE ALL THE GEARS as you would on a normal bike, and don't try to climb every hill at the maximum speed the motor can produce. It's 8-speed, and you'll find the battery charge will last longer.
I said the Metro is not perfect despite my 5 star rating - so here are what I consider to be the main pros and cons:
PROS:
# A very comfortable and solid ride, with easily adjustable seat and handlebars heights.
# Quick and easy to fold / unfold.
# Good and efficient independently-powered lights. (Though I've added a pair of bright flashing lights making me really easy to spot at night. The white bike is also better than the black one at night. Both come with reflective side wall tyres.)
# Good quality front disc brake, rear carrier, side stand and front suspension with a sprung seat post.
# A better than most range of batteries, offering greater distances (though the distances claimed by the company for each battery are a little over-optimistic).
# It's a handsome-looking bike and quite frankly......just enormous fun to ride!
CONS:
# The handlebar computer to adjust the pedal-assist settings is easy to use but the speedo is only able to read in kph. Actually, having carefully checked the distance calibration, the read-out is noticeable inaccurate - it's measures somewhere between kph and mph. I have rectified this by fitting a basic wireless computer from Halfords for around £18 to get an accurate speed and distance reading.
# Cycling along with the motor switched off (or set at 'level 0') is fine, but it does feel just a bit like you're pedalling through treacle or cycling with binding brakes.
# The very short travel on the front suspension means it bottoms out quite easily, but that's no more than you'd expect on a fold-up with 20" wheels. It does mean off-road cycling on anything other than a light gravel track is probably best avoided. 20" wheels won't deal with big pot holes and large stones very well.
# You're unlikely to achieve high speeds on this model - the gearing feels quite low. I can cycle considerably quicker on my ordinary Marin Stinson bike .....until of course, I come to the hills! But hey, 10 -16 mph feels fine to me! If you want a sportier performance, don't buy a fold-up!
All in all, though......a brilliant, versatile and fun little bike!
With my VOLT METRO I have encountered 2 minor problems
(1) If I pedal faster than 6.5 miles an hour it jumps. Needs adjustment
(2) My Dutch Spanninga light has came off during a ride and unable to find the bolt.
I hope to take the Bicycle to Rivington Bike Ltd on 29/10/2015
Words, alone, can not fulfil the Volt experience, a thorough test run is essential. Once you've tried the power assist on the first hill, you'll want to ride it all day and forever look for more hills. It'll become your cycling companion. My choice is the Metro, it runs very quietly, is robustly constructed and carries a 2 year warranty. This model can be folded making it ideal for touring holidays in the car, camper or caravan, but, more importantly............. Volt cycles are British!
We bought our two Volt Metros after losing our dog. The idea behind the purchase was to get us further afield now that we haven't got our best friend to worry about whilst touring in our van. We can now pitch longer in each place knowing anywhere within battery range is a place to explore. We have only used them once so far but they were great fun and made our excursion so much easier. They will definitely get a severe test over the next few years so we'll report again to let you know if they stand up to the test.
We bought two folding electric bikes from Volt in July this year, the Metro and Metro LS. We have been delighted with these bicycles that have more than fulfilled all our hopes. We are not sports cyclists and so our trips so far have been only about 15 miles, the batteries at that range show only one segment used! The settings allow for a "0" position where pedal assist is disabled but the throttle still operates. As the bikes are very easy to pedal without power, this provides an excellent facility for any downhill or flat sections. The suspension makes the ride very comfortable and we have never experienced any instability when riding over uneven ground.
An excellent choice, well done Volt!
I've just completed 3000 km on my Volt Metro so feel reasonably well placed to review it now.
I live in the Scottish Borders which is quite hilly and am retired, in my late 60s. I bought the bike for ‘adventuring' locally and further afield. Folded up, it fits neatly into the boot of my Ford Fiesta so I can discover the rural delights of my local area as well as neighbouring Northumberland, East Lothian and beyond, fairly easily.
At the outset I have to say that I absolutely love the bike and it has enabled me to get to lots places I wouldn't have got to by car or on foot. I often tell people it's probably the best purchase I've made in my later life!
I find it a quite comfy ride and have managed a good number of trips of 50+ miles without any problem. I am tall with long legs so I had to replace the seat post it came with with a longer one at 450mm. There's no seat suspension on that one but that's not really an issue for me.
The build quality of the bike is very good and all the components seem to be of a good enough standard. The bike is quite low geared because of the smaller wheels, but that's fine as I like to go reasonably gently and take in the scenery.
I'd have to describe riding the bike as really great fun. It tackles hills very well but one of the nicest things for me is that it helps you along very well in a strong headwind. The sensor system is very good too. There are 5 power settings - Eco (no power), City, Tour, Power and Boost. I have found that the Tour setting is fine for me even in the quite hilly country where I live. I got the larger capacity battery and using the Tour setting on 50+ mile trips have always had some power left - often 2 out of 5 LEDs on the battery still lighting up.
I did some checking regarding small wheels vs large wheels on bikes before I decided to get the Metro and discovered that the advantages and disadvantages pretty well cancel each other out. I certainly find the 20” wheels absolutely fine.
The display information is in km rather than miles but that isn't a problem and I soon got used to converting km to miles. It's quite good exercise for an older brain doing the km to mile conversions!
Punctures can be problem on any bike but even more so on the back wheel of an electric bike, especially one with small wheels. When I first got the Metro in October 2014 I did get a few punctures which seemed to be caused inside the tyre rather than by thorns or anything, possibly by under inflated tyres. I sought advice and was advised to change the rim tape to best quality cloth tape and to get the most puncture proof tyres there are - Schwalbe Marathon Plus. These tyres accept 70psi rather than the 45psi the CSL tyres the bike comes with making for a slightly harder ride but lessening the chance of ‘pinch' punctures. Indeed, since making those changes I've been puncture free and I feel much more confident when I am out.
I had been out of bikes for quite a number of years and one of the things I didn't know was that on bikes with derailleur gears, the chain only lasts perhaps 1000 - 2000 miles. I'm on my second chain already. I've also discovered that using really good quality lube definitely really pays off as far as slick running and gear changing are concerned.
I did have a couple of issues with the rear hub and the freewheel set but my local dealer, Diamond Cycles in Galashiels quickly sorted things out for me.
Despite searching, I still haven't found a suitable bag for the bike yet so I can take it on the train and bus.
If you are thinking about a Volt Metro, based on my experience I would certainly recommend it. A good number of friends have tried it and absolutely love it too. It's great fun!
GREAT product & after sales Support!! But Little Improvements needed!!
After lot of research and considering different aspect of modern ebikes, I had to go for Volt Metro due to reasonable price and quality equipments. I am riding it for last 2 months and had no issues so far and enjoying the ride for daily commuting to work 10 miles each way. So far Volt rep. was very helpful in couple of occasions. For service they deserve 5 *****
Couple of improvements on the product. Recently, my LCD was stolen and that made me thinking if the LCD would be easily removable, probably potential theft could be prevented. It definitely going to hurt on your pocket after spending such large amount on the bike. Volt should have considered it beforehand because bikes may not always be possible to keep indoor.
On another note, the front and back lights are not integrated, which seems a big inconvenience for the rider as the lights are not connected to the bike battery and cannot be operated with LCD. So, each time need to change battery, you need to unscrew and re-screw. It was kind of unexpected and I didn't notice until the day I went to pick up the bike.
I hope Volt would consider improving these aspect, specially on volt model.
Thats why 4****
I have had my Volt Metro twelve months, and have cycled 1533 kM, taking it on holidays to Liverpool and Torbay. I have had no problems with it at all, and recommend this bike to anyone.
Dave King, Birmingham
Great bike complimented by an even better customer service
I purchased the Metro folding and Metro LS for my partner and I as we are both reside in the City. These both bikes offer an exceptional ride during all weather and travel conditions. I was searching for a light, durable as well as stylish bike for my daily commute. After several weeks of searching and speaking with other cyclists, I came across Volt Bikes, their customer service and attention to my needs was parallel. And I have been very happy with their after-care support. I have had these bikes for 8-9 months now so had have a chance to use them during our various seasons and I can heartily confirm, the technology used is current and to a high standard. Will happily recommend Volt Bikes to colleagues, family and friends.
I love love love love love my black Volt Metro...what a great bike, it absolutely shifts....I have commuted for nearly 30yrs... this bike has brought the joy back to cycling for me...fast, slick and amazing fun! If you are considering buying an e-bike please go and test ride a Volt bike! Also, the guys at the company are really helpful and friendly. Thus far I haven't had to use the after sales care but I have no doubt it will be great!.
I have had my Volt Metro for 2 years and still works fine. The frame is solid proved this when I got knocked off by a car. It's very nippy and the thumb throttle comes in handy when pulling away at lights as well as when you want a bit of speed. It makes light work of all but the steepest hills. Using the throttle and a full battery the fastest I've achieved is 18mph on a flat rd.
Like most E-bikes it is heavy good for folding when you want to put in back of a car,not great if your planing to commute to town on a train everyday.
Things that could be better a disk brake on the back wheel instead of just the front, this would mean redesigning the frame some other folding e bikes have a back disk so this could be done. The front light is not very bright. Recommend anyone to buy a 2nd light. Happy with after sales service I received when due to accident I had to replace the front. Handlebar brake.
I went to four dealers and tried nine different e bikes. I am 62, 6'tall and 15 stone. I was thinking of a folding bike for both the car boot and for our narrowboat. I already have a Brompton but a recent leg operation tires me at the moment. The Volt Metro seemed to fit the bill exactly. It is well built and was supplied to a local independent shop in the north west near my home for assembly. The owner deals in high end road bikes but said he was very impressed with the bike and its performance.
I took the bike out for a twenty five mile ride with four long and very steep climbs which on my ordinary bike I would have had to use the very lowest gears and even walk probably. The Metro made the ride a real joy. I mainly left the bike in setting 3..."tour" and used the gears over all the range. I had been told the front sprocket is larger to cope with the 20" wheels and the bike certainly seemed to have a high enough top gear which wasn't always the case on other makes I tried.
It is comfy and the brakes are good for stopping. I like the disc brake ...similar to the ones on my Marin moutain bike. The battery indicator was still showing over half on my return. Another pleasant surprise.
Perhaps the display could show distances in miles and the booklet doesn't clearly describe resetting the trip distance. I will get round soon to ringing the kind folk at Volt and I'm sure they will explain it.
I bought two Volt Metro bikes recently and have been very pleased with them. I bought them through a cycle shop so didn't have to do any assembly, the shop did all the PDI checks before handover. Very pleased with the features on the bikes and with the build quality.
Suggestion: Have a facility to measure in miles instead of (or as well as) kilometres

I have always been sceptical about e-bikes, thinking that it was somehow cheating and their weight has always put me off. However, I recently found myself wanting a folding bike and the idea of an e-bike was becoming more interesting with advancing age (I am nearly 62), so when I saw an ad for the Volt Metro I was definitely interested and was tempted by the offer of a road test at their London store. I was immediately hooked and ordered a white version a few days later. I opted for the lower capacity battery, as I couldn't justify the larger capacity one costing an extra £200, when I would be using it mostly for a two mile commute. I was told delivery would be about a week. To my surprise I got a call from Piers of Volt Bikes two days later saying that they would be delivering it that day via Cornwall! (I live in Leamington Spa). It arrived at the appointed time and despite the long drive from Cornwall Piers spent at least half an hour explaining the controls and making sure I understood everything before departing. Also delivery was free. Since then (and despite having two excellent ordinary bikes) I have used this bike exclusively and have been most pleasantly surprised. It really shifts and is extremely well equipped with lights, mudguards, pannier rack, stand and excellent electronic display. You also do get a decent amount of exercise, as the battery only kicks in fully at those times when ordinary cycling becomes a drudge, i.e. cycling up long hills or into a headwind. I took it on a 17 mile run yesterday with my sceptical cycling friends and it was a very windy day and quite a hilly route. Basically I left them standing, even on the flat, despite their very fancy mountain bikes. At one point they took a short cut off road, so I couldn't join them for this bit, but cycled round on the road on the other three sides of the square thus formed and arrived at their exit point at the same time, much to their astonishment. Despite the length of this ride and the use of battery I felt very well exercised at the end, as for most of the time I had been cycling faster than 15 mph at which point the battery cuts out, so the battery was still more than half charged at the end. My cycling friends all looked really knackered but I just felt really good! It is going to be a real wrench to go back to those non-electric bikes now! PS The bike folds really easily and with the current design it stands up when folded. It is heavy to lift up into the boot of your car but this can be made much easier if you take the battery out and remove the seat post/saddle. One minor niggle is that at 6ft 1in I found the supplied seat post too short so had to buy another unsprung one for £15.
I bought a Volt Metro electric folding bike in July 2013 and have used it in both the open countryside and in the thick of city traffic and it is perfect for both situations. It is comfortable, speedy (thanks to the 5 power settings and great gears) smart looking, suberb disc brakes, and very easy to cycle without using the battery assistence.
I never thought I could find an electric bike that was as agile and nifty as my normal city bike. It is a joy to ride.
It has only one negative point and that is its folding position. It folds easily but it has nothing to clip it shut and no way to free stand it and it tends to rest on the plastic chain guard which risks being cracked. It also does not come with a travel bag that you can store it in when floded and travelling.
This is its only weakness.
I want to buy another electric bike for my holiday house but I am finding it difficult to find one that matches the Volt Metro...but I can't afford a second Volt Metro!
The thing that sets this bike apart is the different power settings and the throttle. very few bikes have such a wide range and when you cycle 10-15 miles you need them all by the end of the journey!!
Have the Volt Metro folding bike, it's a great bike around town, passing other cyclists up hills is quite funny with 250 watt motor helping. It's the only folding bike I could find with a electric motor, disc brake, front suspension and a really great seat with suspension also. Folds away really nicely, but it's really heavy to carry up stairs due to the weight of the battery.
Also a great company with great service. They answer all your problems and concerns.
Smooth classy elecrtic foldable bike - attentive customer service - the market leader
The Electric Bike Store is the shop window for the Volt Bikes company. I needed a very reliable and elegant foldable electric bike. I already own a non electric foldable but occasionally need to arrive at work looking pristine. So i bought the Volt Metro.
The Volt Metro has proved to be a stunningly successful acquisition. It is indeed elegant - I bought the black bike- with a rear bag the black battery is largely obscured/camoflaged. It is lighter than most other e-folding bikes yet is of very robust construction. It is easy to fold and store in a standard folding bike bag. It conquers the steepest hills with ease. It is a quiet runner. The built-in lights are very effective. The gearing is smooth and the digital pedal assist controls are excellent (and can be back-lit on dark evenings). The brakes are ideal - rear drum and front disk. I do think you need quality brakes on an e-bike and the front disk is just right. I bought the basic battery and have found it to be perfect for my needs (I generally dont do more than 20 miles in a day). It is quiet and easy to charge. I have owned the bike for 2 months and use it 4+ times per week. It continues to impress me. I am 5'11" and find it suits me perfectly. My wife is only 5'2" and agrees that with minimal seat adjustment it is just right for her also.
The bike itself is the best value for money purchase that i have made this year.
As for the Electric Bike Store - run by the Volt Bikes Team - very informative and professional. Having had a great report on the bike from a friend, I did not bother to visit the store to assess the bike first - which I guess could be seen as risky behavior. I just bought it. I took the interest free direct debit option to pay off over one year. The bike was delivered (in person by the very person who dealt with my purchase over the phone). He showed me how to utilize the controls and advised on bike care. He gave me a comprehensive user guide (booklet) and then watched me test ride the bike. He departed after I expressed my true satisfaction with everything.
The company is proudly British but clearly uses the best parts from the leading worldwide companies. Their working relationship with Bafang should see them maintain cutting edge standards into the future. I consider them to be the best around at present.
I have tried 3 other e-bikes in the last 12 months - the Volt bike is outstanding in the lead. I bought the metro for commuting purposes (and also for regular country Pub visits) but I have also had a look at the Volt Alpine mountain e-bike. Together with amazing specs it looks incredible.... maybe next year.
awesome product, awesome service, thanks Electric bike store.
amazing effortless cycling, ideal for commuting to work. I cycle 3.5 miles I arrive fresh and not a bit tired, then after a 12 hour shift, I'm usually knackered, I ride home the 3.5 miles effortlessly.
Awesome product, I charge up every 2 days to maintain optimum performance.
Awesome service from Electric bike store.
I love my Volt Metro
The new 2026 VOLT Metro has had a serious upgrade and it’s ready to make your daily rides easier, faster, and a lot more fun.
Strong, practical, and easy to fold, it’s the perfect e-bike for commuting, shopping trips, or weekend rides. The sturdy but lightweight aluminium frame folds down in seconds, so you can tuck it under a desk, fit it in the boot, or take it on the train with no fuss.
Power comes from a smooth and responsive rear hub motor, paired with VOLT’s own SPINTECH integrated advanced torque sensor. This unique technology measures how hard you’re pedalling and automatically adjusts the power to match, giving you an incredibly natural and intuitive ride. It feels just like cycling, only easier. Hills, headwinds, and stop-start traffic suddenly feel effortless.
The Shimano 8-speed gears and Tektro hydraulic brakes give you control and confidence wherever you’re riding. The SR Suntour suspension fork, wide Schwalbe Big Ben tyres, and Comfort Saddle soak up bumps and give you a smooth, stable ride. You can adjust the handlebars to suit your height and riding position, so every journey feels just right.
With a choice of two Panasonic batteries, you can go up to 40 miles* on a single charge and recharge in around 3–4 hours. The LCD display makes it easy to check your speed, battery level, and power mode, while built-in Spaninga LED lights keep you visible at all times. Add in full-length mudguards, and you’ve got a folding e-bike that’s ready for real-world riding in any weather.
The latest evolution of our SpinTech rear hub motor technology gives riders the best of both worlds through a choice between torque and cadence modes at the touch of a button. Torque mode delivers a natural, responsive ride by matching the motor’s assistance to the effort you put into the pedals, making it feel like an extension of your own power. Cadence mode, by contrast, provides smooth, consistent assistance as soon as you start pedalling, ideal for relaxed riding, effortless journeys, or when you want the bike to do more of the work. By allowing riders to switch between these two distinct riding experiences, VOLT offers a level of versatility that has not previously been available on any e-bike motor to date. While most competing systems require customers to choose one approach or the other, VOLT’s innovative SpinTech technology lets you adapt the bike to your preferences, terrain, and riding style at any time delivering greater comfort, control, and enjoyment from every ride.
In short, the VOLT Metro is built to fit around your life: compact, comfortable, and capable wherever you go.
