Caroline Adamson with the award

Hold onto your handlebars, because Lerwick’s Shetland Community Bike Project just cruised into the winner’s circle! They’ve only gone and bagged the coveted “Cycle Shop Champion of the Year” at the annual conference hosted by Cycling Scotland, Sustrans, Cycling UK, and Scottish Cycling. VOLT’s long-standing relationship with the project means we know only too well how great they are, and how well-deserved every accolade they receive is.

Caroline Adamson, the powerhouse behind Shetland Community Bike Project, spilled the beans…

We’re thrilled to have won. Winning this award shows recognition for all the hard work that’s been put in by all of our volunteers, staff, board of directors and everyone we work with in the community. We’d like to say thank you to the organisers and to everyone who nominated us.

A Place Where Everyone Gets to Ride

But that’s not all there is to this story! The Bike Project isn’t just about selling beautiful VOLT E-bikes; it’s also a hub of inclusivity. The core mission of the Bike Project extends beyond that of your everyday bike shop; it actively creates pathways for individuals facing employment barriers, helping them unlock their full potential through voluntary placements and training programs.

Every year, over 30 folks gain work skills, confidence, and some serious bike repair know-how through the Bike Project’s initiatives. No wonder they clinched the “Cycle Shop Champion of the Year” title.

VOLT Bikes x Shetland Bike Project – More than just a business relationship!

Our relationship with the Shetland Community Bike Project isn’t your run-of-the-mill business affair. Not only are they the exclusive dealers of VOLT Bikes in Shetland, but they’re also one of our longest-standing dealers and highly popular with the Volt staff. Customers can’t stop singing their praises, and we’re just here nodding our heads in agreement.

The Bike Project are also the go-to spot for electric bike rentals, whether you’re a local in need of a two-wheeled adventure or a tourist wanting to pedal your way through Shetland’s wonders.

Pedalling Through Shetland’s Beauty: Must-Try Cycling Routes

So what’s the best route to explore on two wheels?! The Cunningsburgh Loop is your ticket to a cycling escapade through charming villages, rolling hills, and Insta-worthy coastal views. And if tranquillity is your jam, the Kergord Loop will take you on a magical journey through Shetland’s countryside, where lochs and greenery steal the show. These routes are like love letters to Shetland’s beauty, and your bike is the pen!

In a nutshell, this latest award isn’t just a win; it’s a celebration of their passion for cycling, their fantastic community support, and the awesome mark they’ve made on Shetland. Hats off to the Shetland Community Bike Project—your wheels keep turning, and we can’t wait for the next victory lap! 🚴‍♂️✨
