Dealer Spotlight: Highway Cycles

If you’re a regular visitor to the Blog you’ll recognise Highway Cycles from our last post, where they featured as one of our six new dealers across the country. Well we thought we’d give them a curtain call for little more time in the spotlight… 

Back in the seventies Highway Cycles  built their first cycle shop on the side of the Enfield Highway. Now they can be found in the centre of Hertford with a fantastic range of cycles for every need and every whim including our e-bikes! Here’s more about them, in their own words…

What motivated you to open/run a bicycle shop?

 Well that one is easy, a love of cycling!

What makes your store different from others?

We have a long history, a huge range of stock for every type of cyclist and offer unique services such as hire bikes, on the spot repairs with a sit down and have a drink area while you wait and a friendly relaxed atmosphere. We love a chat!

Where is the best/favourite location you’ve ever cycled?

Wales. The terrain, scenery and vast array of different riding opportunities is amazing. We love getting lost in the mountains for a few hours.

What is the funniest/strangest request you’ve ever had from a customer?

 “Hi, I had my brake fixed 3 months ago with you, and now my gears are not working” was frustrating, does that count? Charlotte also encounters many middle aged men who will walk in an say “Hi, is there a man here to look at my bike please?”. Not funny but that happens often!

What was it about the VOLT range that led you to stock them?

They are well designed and have a comprehensive range at a fair price, what is not to like?

What is your favourite Volt e-bike and why?

The Bigfoot, just because its over the top and ridiculous fun. Also the versatility and portability of the Metro make it a staff favourite too.

What is your top tip for anyone looking to buy an electric bike?

Make sure you give one a go! It’s very important to make sure the bike is going to suit your needs. Not all electric bikes are created equal and you get what you pay for so also make sure you ask the right questions. Make sure the batteries are made by a reputable company and that the bikes pass all regulations. You do not want to buy a bike to find you cannot use it on the road legally.
