They may be the new kids on the block but The Cycle Company in Winchester have already built up an impressive reputation as a friendly, passionate and knowledgeable bike shop.

The shop is expertly run by three self-confessed bike fanatics who are keen to share the joys of two wheels at any chance they get. We love their enthusiasm and we think you will too, so here they are in their own words, in the spotlight…

1. What motivated you to open/run a bicycle shop?

Ed, Duncan & I opened The Cycle Company earlier this year. The electric bike market is growing so fast and we spotted an opportunity to open a specialist electric bike shop in the Winchester area. We have big plans to develop a national, e-bike retail brand. Being good friends and keen cyclists has made the journey so far incredibly enjoyable.

2. What makes your store different from others?

The Cycle Company is a specialist e-bike shop, located in a lovely village just outside Winchester and on the edge of the South Downs National Park. We offer a wide range of bikes, including Volt’s foldable, hybrid and step through e-bikes, but also hard tail and full-suspension mountain bikes. We feature 7 brands and are in an ideal location to test ride different bikes and ensure our customers are buying the right bike for their needs.

3. Where is the best/favourite location you’ve ever cycled?

We are really fortunate to have the South Downs National Park on our doorstep, which offers such a variety of cycling options. The 3 of us love getting out in to the Downs and exploring the lesser known tracks and trails. There are also some brilliant, warm and cosy country pubs to stop off at along the way!

4. What is the funniest/strangest request you have ever had from a customer?

We’ve now had 2 requests to fit dog baskets to the crossbar of new electric bikes, so the owners can chat to their dogs while riding! I guess it’s one of the benefits of e-bikes, that you can carry extra weight and enjoy all the benefits that brings!

5. What is your favourite poison (coffee, matcha, beer, tea, spirit, cocktail, energy drink, juice, etc.)?

A pint of local bitter in a riverside pub garden after a summer evening bike ride – now that’s bliss!

6. What about the Volt brand & range led you to stock them?

Volt have been really supportive since day one and as a new business that is invaluable. Their range of bikes look great in the shop and their marketing is also superb, which helps a lot.

7. What is your favourite Volt e-bike and why?

The Volt Kensington – it’s just such a head turner! We have it at the front of the shop every day and it brings in so many new customers.
