Whether you are familiar with the stunning scenery of the Scottish highlands or not, Applecross is one of the finest and friendliest places you could wish to find!
It has an amazing community which we are privileged and proud to work with. So we couldn’t be happier that the Applecross Community Company (ACC) has been awarded funding by Cycling Scotland and Energy Saving Trust to launch their own e-bike hire scheme. The purchase of Volt e-bikes, e-bike accessories and maintenance equipment was match funded by the ACC to kick start this ambitious campaign.
The project, “Active Applecross”, will use the hire scheme to promote cycling in the Applecross community by increasing access to bikes and opportunities to cycle. The project will also include maintenance and allocation training for a group of volunteers and engagement activities, such as community bike rides.
Volt co-founder Lyle Metcalfe was excited to participate at the launch event for the project at the Applecross Community Hall earlier last month.
“ACC was delighted to welcome Lyle from Volt who travelled up all the way from London to put the bikes together and demo them to community members.” – Sara, Local Development Officer of Applecross Community Company
The ACC offers its residents a free 2-week trial, after which community members can hire them at affordable rates.

It’s a fantastic initiative that we’re delighted to be part of. Since our beginnings in 2010 we’ve had great experiences in helping deliver projects like this across the UK, and we look forward to delivering more and more in the future!
