From Spreadsheet to Saddle: Jasmin’s Edinburgh E-bike Commute

BLOG   video   From Spreadsheet to Saddle: Jasmin’s Edinburgh E-bike Commute

Some people choose an e-bike on a whim. Jasmin built a spreadsheet. A year and a half later, she carries her folding VOLT Metro LS across Edinburgh every morning, and she couldn’t be happier with how her careful research paid off.

Doing the Homework

Jasmin wanted a way to get to work easily and quickly, and she approached the problem the way she approaches most things: methodically.

“I approached this like many things, with an Excel sheet where I basically put all the possibilities and had a category for battery and torque and all those kinds of things,” she says.

The spreadsheet whittled the field down to two ebikes, one of them the VOLT Metro LS. Then it was time for a test ride.

One Test Ride Was All It Took

As it turned out, the second bike on the shortlist never got a look-in.

“I didn’t even go to see the other one because this one convinced me right away. I stepped on it and it just zoomed off. It was really great.”

Expert Help at Leith Cycle Co.

This was her first e-bike, so Jasmin arrived at Leith Cycle Co. with a list of questions, and the team took the time to answer every one.

“They were super knowledgeable about the bike. I had loads of questions because this is my first e-bike and I didn’t really know the ins and outs. They were really competent and knowledgeable and able to answer all of them. They were very patient with me as well.”

The experience was so good that she bought the bike there and then.

A Morning Ride Across the Meadows

Jasmin lives on one side of the Meadows and works on the other, so her commute begins with one of the nicest rides in the city. The final stretch is a steep climb, though, and that’s where the Metro LS really earns its keep.

“I put it on high and I’m able to just move up there really speedily and without breaking a sweat.”

Folding, Without the Compromise

Jasmin lives in a second-floor flat with nowhere to store a full-size bike, so she knew she needed one that folds. Her research had turned up a few warnings about folding e-bikes, but the Metro LS put those worries to rest.

“I read a lot about folding e-bikes, that they can be a bit tricky, their suspension might not be great or they might feel a bit rickety. But this one has neither of those things. It’s very comfortable.”

The Metro LS has a front suspension fork, a comfort saddle and a low-step frame. It’s built to ride like a full-size bike and fold away when the ride is done.

Upright, Comfortable and Stylish

Jasmin rode a classic Dutch bike for years, and the Metro LS gives her the same relaxed, upright riding position.

“You can sit straight and it’s just a nice way of riding a bike, I find.”

And it doesn’t hurt that it looks the part.

“I just really like this combination of the light colours and the brown seat. It looks quite stylish as well.”

Spreading the Word

Eighteen months on, Jasmin is one of the Metro LS’s biggest fans, and she’s been telling everyone about it.

“I would definitely recommend VOLT. I’ve had a really good experience with it. It’s just made my morning commute really pleasant. I’ve recommended it to loads of people. So absolutely, yes.”

Thank you, Jasmin, for sharing your story with us. Happy commuting!
