The Bike That Goes Where the Camper Van Can’t: Tim’s E-bike Adventure

Like many VOLT e-bike owners, Tim’s life changed for the better in a variety of ways once he got on the saddle. Research First, Then a Trip to Café VOLT

Like a lot of e-riders, Tim started online.

“I’d been looking for a while, researching on the web,” he says. “VOLT certainly came out as one of the leading brands at the moment. Both what you get for your money, and a great design.”

But it was seeing the range in person that settled it. Tim booked in at our London showroom, where you can try the full range and get a coffee while you think it over.

“In the end I went to the showroom in London, which is lovely. There’s a cafe there as well, and you can try all the bikes. I thought, yep, this is the one. I looked at one or two, but this is the one that suited me.”

The one, in Tim’s case, was the VOLT LITE.

A Few Miles to the Pool and Back

Tim and his wife both ride the LITE, and for him it has become the way he gets to the swimming pool.

“It’s several miles there and back, so it’s well within the range of the bike. I don’t have to charge it every time. It just makes it a great little journey.”

The Bike That Goes Where the Camper Van Can’t

The LITE really earns its keep when the camper van comes out. At around 18kg it’s one of the lightest folding e-bikes on the market, which matters when you’re thinking about payload and lifting.

“We have a camper van. It’s light, so payload-wise it’s not heavy in the van. And it’s nice and light for lifting out and enjoying wherever we’ve gone to on those little mini breaks.”

“It makes it more versatile at the sites. Often the sites aren’t in the middle of a town, so if you want to do a bit of shopping or go and see different places, and your camper van is perhaps too big to get in some of the parking spots, this is the ideal way of getting round on a holiday. It’s great.”

Built Up Locally, Serviced Locally

Tim’s bike was delivered to his nearest VOLT dealer, OTEC Bikes in Buckinghamshire, one of more than 100 across the UK.

“They’re great people there, very helpful, very friendly. They put the bike together, let you know it’s ready, and then they can do the servicing afterwards as well.”

Designed in Britain, Built in Britain

For Tim, where the bike comes from is part of the appeal. Every VOLT is designed in-house and hand-built at our Milton Keynes factory.

“It’s nice to buy British. It’s designed in Britain and also it’s built in Britain as well, which is lovely for keeping the country going. I support that when I can.”

Already Telling Everyone

Tim hasn’t kept the LITE to himself.

“I’ve already recommended VOLT to other people. It’s a great brand. We tell our friends both socially when we’re at home, and then when we’re out on the camping trails as well.”

And he’s clear about who else it could help.

“It also opens up the road for older people where normal bikes might be too much of a strain. And this brand certainly delivers that, so that you can enjoy.”
