Riding for a Cause: Alexina Graham, Skintension, and the Power of Mental Health Advocacy

In a heartwarming collaboration for World Mental Health Day, model and mental wellbeing advocate Alexina Graham joined forces with Travis and a very special feline companion, Sigrid. Together, they embarked on a mission to raise awareness for mental health charities, shedding light on the importance of support and companionship in overcoming life’s challenges. This initiative was made possible by the efforts of Smiley Movement, a platform dedicated to inspiring positive change in society.

Before this remarkable mental health journey, our hosts, Travis and Sigrid, set the wheels in motion for a series of charity rides.

Travis & Sigrid’s Charity Rides: Bowling Over Hunger with Monty Panesar & The Felix Project

In this episode, Travis and Sigrid kicked off their incredible charity rides series on the VOLT Alpine with cricket legend Monty Panesar. Together, they joined forces to promote The Felix Project, an organisation dedicated to fighting hunger and food waste across London. The statistics are staggering: 4.7 million adults in the United Kingdom struggle to afford to eat every day, while 2 million children are at risk of missing their next meal. Meanwhile, our food industry generates 3 million tonnes of good, edible surplus food each year. The Felix Project, established in 2016, is a London-based food redistribution charity addressing both of these pressing issues.

Travis and Sigrid had the pleasure of meeting Clare Rogers, a passionate advocate from the London Cycling Campaign. This dedicated organisation works tirelessly to make cycling in London safer and more enjoyable for everyone. What’s more, they’ve made incredible strides in encouraging more women to embrace cycling. And, in a delightful twist of fate, Sigrid herself holds her own Feline Membership.

Episode 3: The Model Breaking Stigmas and Raising Mental Health Awareness

As the trio set out on their journey, a remarkable bond formed between them. Alexina, with her candidness and resilience, shared a personal challenge she faced. Her story serves as a beacon of hope for many who may be going through similar struggles. In her darkest moments, Alexina discovered the vital support offered by the mental health and suicide prevention charity, Beder. Their unwavering commitment to providing assistance to those in need played a pivotal role in Alexina’s journey towards healing and resilience.

The Therapeutic Power of Cycling:

One striking aspect of their journey was the choice of transportation – cycling. The trio pedaled their way through the scenic landscapes, showcasing how this simple act can be a powerful tool for mental wellbeing. Cycling not only offers physical benefits but also serves as a means of therapy, allowing individuals to clear their minds and find solace in the rhythm of the ride.

Sigrid: The Deaf Cat with a Big Heart:

Sigrid, the charismatic feline companion, stole the show with her endearing presence. Her silent support and unconditional love served as a reminder that sometimes, the most profound connections come from the unlikeliest of sources.

The Smiley Movement Initiative:

This heartening endeavor is made possible by Smiley Movement, a platform dedicated to inspiring positive change in society. They curated a mental health series featuring episodes with Travis, Sigrid, and Alexina Graham, providing a platform for open conversations about mental health and the importance of support and advocacy.

As this inspiring journey unfolds, we are reminded of the importance of supporting organisations like Beder and initiatives like the Smiley Movement’s mental health series. Their collective efforts are making a tangible difference in the lives of many.
