What does it take to rebuild your life after a stroke, a multiple sclerosis diagnosis, and the loss of everything you thought your future would look like?
For the latest episode of On Your Bike, Mr Motivator riding a VOLT Pulse E-bike is joined by one of Britain’s most inspiring athletes, Paralympic champion Kadeena Cox, riding a Pulse LS electric bike for an honest, uplifting and deeply personal conversation about resilience, wellbeing and discovering purpose through life’s greatest challenges.
On Your Bike with Kadeena Cox: Resilience, Wellbeing & Never Giving Up
Riding together through the park before settling down for a chat, the pair explore not only Kadeena’s extraordinary sporting achievements but also the mindset that has enabled her to overcome obstacles that would stop most people in their tracks.
Before becoming one of Britain’s most decorated Paralympians, Kadeena had dreams of becoming a physiotherapist. Sport had always been central to her life, but after suffering a stroke at just 23 years old, followed only months later by a diagnosis of multiple sclerosis (MS), everything changed.
Rather than allowing those life-changing events to define her, Kadeena channelled her determination into rehabilitation. What began as recovery on a stationary bike eventually led to an entirely new sporting career in cycling alongside athletics, where she broke world records and won multiple Paralympic medals.
As she reflects in the podcast, there were moments when even moving a single foot seemed impossible. Yet every tiny breakthrough became another reason to keep believing.
Wellbeing Is About the Whole Person
One of the most powerful themes throughout the conversation is Kadeena’s definition of wellbeing.
Rather than focusing purely on physical fitness, she explains that true wellbeing means caring for the whole person, physically, mentally and emotionally.
It’s a message that aligns perfectly with what On Your Bike is all about. Cycling isn’t simply a way to exercise. It’s a chance to clear your mind, reconnect with nature and create moments of calm in an increasingly busy world.
Even as an elite athlete, Kadeena admits that some of her favourite rides are the ones that aren’t about training at all.
“ I really enjoy just getting outside in nature. ”
It’s a reminder that sometimes the greatest benefits of riding have nothing to do with speed or performance.
Finding Purpose Through Adversity
Throughout the episode, Mr Motivator gently explores how Kadeena has learned to live with a condition that affects every aspect of daily life.
Rather than asking “Why me?”, she chose to focus on what she could still achieve and how her experiences might help others facing similar challenges.
Her faith, family and fierce determination have all played a vital role in helping her navigate the highs and lows of living with MS, while her competitive spirit continues to drive her towards new goals.
Perhaps most inspiring of all is Kadeena’s vision for the future. Alongside continuing her sporting career, she hopes to use her physiotherapy qualifications to help people with disabilities in countries where access to rehabilitation is limited.
It’s a wonderful reminder that success isn’t measured only by medals, but also by the lives we can positively impact along the way.
Family, Love and Looking Forward
The conversation also offers a more personal glimpse into Kadeena’s life away from elite sport.
She speaks warmly about the support of her family, the importance of having people around you who understand life’s challenges, and even opens up about finding love with someone who shares a similar lived experience of disability.
It’s these moments of openness and humour that make the episode feel so genuine, reminding us that behind every sporting achievement is simply a person navigating life like the rest of us.
